Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers signing with the Chicago Bears is imminent, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday, citing an unnamed source.

The paper also said the Bears will hold a news conference later Friday to announce the singing of Peppers, running back Chester Taylor and tight end Brandon Manumaleuna.

New England and Philadelphia have also made a push for Peppers, but Chicago is offering a higher annual salary, the Sun-Times said.

Report: Bears likely to sign Peppers, C. Taylor

They still have not addressed their biggest weakness.  Their OL is like swiss cheese.  To utilize Forte and probably Taylor, they will need to block better.  Getting the WR that all are calling for will be useless unless they can give Cutler some time to throw.  Average QB's do good when they have time.  Great QB's don't do well with no blocking.

It's time for the Bears to invest in a front line before the wide-outs.  The Orlando Pace experiment is done.  Let's work on something that will help the next few years!

Matt Forte is not an every down kinda guy??? Did you really say that? He has never missed a game, had 316 attempts with 1,238 yards rushing in 2008 along with 63 receptions for 477 yards. In 2009 he had 258 attempts with 929 rushing yards and 57 receptions for 471 yards with the drop off being a direct result of the dramatic play calling shift by Turner to pass plays over running plays. Chicago threw the ball 566 times last season compared to 374 running plays last year.

Not an every down back? Why? I'm not even a Bears fan and I'm shaking my head at that one.

What happened the last time the bears signed Carolina's left over....?  Anyone remembers Mushin Mohammed?  They better be eyeing OL an WR next.

They tried to get him for a second last year and Arizona laughed at them.

Still Gaping Holes

Do these guys help their offensive line?  No.  Deficiencies at WR and secondary?  No.   Obviously, Angelo has nothing to lose.  Spend as much as he's allowed.  If it doesn't work out (which it probably won't), then it's someone else's issue when there is a cap in 2011.

Can you guys actually imagine Alex Brown off the left side and Julius Peppers off the Right.  OUCH!!!!! Now Devin Hester and Johnny Knox are good enough to let the Bears use the 3rd round pick for Offensive Line. Wow the defense will be SMOKIN!!!!

Probably overpaid, but so what....

Peppers disappears at times, but he will command a double-team, and that's big for a team with a bad pass rush (and is also a bad blitzing team). Also, 4 yrs/12,5 is better than the 6/12 I read earlier. Worth the risk for a team that not only has no high draft picks, but has an atrocious draft record the last few years.

They still need a free safety.

I'm excited about the Chester Taylor signing as well. I'm guessing he may be starting wk 1. It's still good to have add'l options. Forte is an average back.

They still need a starting caliber WR.

Objectively, it doesn't make CHI as good as GB or MIN, but they're closer. Go Bears!
