Colts - Jets Analysis

The Colts - Jets matchup isn't one that many expected.  I'm sure most were hoping for a Charger - Colts matchup. That doesn't mean it's a matchup that many won't like. It's hard to get a better one if you like the unstoppable force versus the immovable object.  The Jets bring the top-rated pass defense into Indianapolis while the Colts have the second rated passing offense.  The Colts also have the league MVP in Peyton Manning while the Jets bring the runner-up in the Defensive Player of the Year Darrelle Revis (many think he should have won it).

Player to watch - Darrelle Revis.  Revis qualifies as a shutdown conerback.  He was rarely test against San Diego and that shows a great deal of respect from a team that can pass the ball effectively.  When he was tested in that game he came away with an interception. Revis has shutdown practically every wide receiver he has faced.  It may be a long day for Reggie Wayne.

A pair to watchout for - Collie and Clark.  The CC's will give the Jets trouble.  Collie regularly beat Lito Sheppard in the last matchup and that was only for a portion of a game.  Clark had 57 yards with still a quarter and a half remaining before he was pulled.

Verdict - I give the slight edge to the Colts in this one.  The offensive line will give Manning the time to be patient in the pocket and find his receivers.  He is so adept at picking up blitzes that they should not be an issue for him.  He reads defenses better than most and will find the open receiver during a blitz.

My pick - Colts 27 Jets 16

Colts - Jets Analysis

While I loved your analysis of the game there is just something in me that says the Jets are going to win. The last matchup although did not mean anything to the Colts they played most of the game and only had a 5 pt lead as they left. That type of scoring leads me to believe that the Jets defense can handle Manning and the receivers. If they can mantain a low scoring game I believe there will be a lot of field goals. Call it gut instinct but the Jets will win.

Jets - 26
Colts - 20

Colts - Jets Analysis

Yes, obviously a Jets fan. I was worried more about the Chargers than the Colts.  Dallas Clark maybe a stup up from Gates, so perhaps he does us in, but Austin fkkin Collie? Please! He scares nobody and I can't wait to see how he does vs Shappard +help. Hmm.  Really, the Chargers scared you more?  Manning > Rivers, Wayne > Jackson, Clark = Gates, Garcon > Floyd, Collie > Chargers 3rd receiver, Colts Defense > Chargers defense.  No one is scared of either running game.  Chargers should have had a special teams advantage over the Colts, but didn't show it last week.

Not sure how the Chargers can scare you more than Indy, but to each their own.

Colts - Jets Analysis

Give me the Jets +11 any day of the week against any team. The great thing here is we now realize we can afford to rush/blitz three or four since the Colts have zero in the rush dept, ala the Eagles who were also grossly overrated and exposed in teh playoffs.

I have all the respect in the world for Peyton Manning, but none for the new Indy Coacch after what he did to the home fans last time we met. There is such thing as Karma in this game and I have a hunch (hope) the football Gods stike down upon he and Polian with great vengance and furious anger. A quick three and out and a Jets score and Lucas oil Stadium might blow up! I cant wait!

Colts - Jets Analysis

Colts will handle the Jets blitz packages and maybe adjust them to give more problems to the Colts O-line.

While that is certainly a possibility they only had this week to make those adjustments.  Not an easy task when faced with a QB how reads defenses and blitzes like Peyton.  No matter how it turns out this will be a better game than most people think.

Good Analysis, except for the last comment "He reads defenses better than most and will find the open receiver during a blitz."  There isn't a quarterback playing that reads defenses better than Peyton.

You are right.  I used most since it seemed to make the sentence flow better.  He is without a doubt the best at reading defenses in the game right now.  Possibly ever.  That however is probably more subjective to most.

Colts - Jets Analysis

As a long time Colts fan this is a matchup that I had hoped for. I also, wanted the Cowboys to win last week. Am not a Cowboys fan but the Colts won a Superbowl against them and the MVP was a defensive player for the Cowboys. Before that the Colts lost a Superbowl to the Jets!

This game has nothing to do with that history, the Jets have a inspirational coach. The Jets have a great defense. The Jets have running backs.

Enough said, the Colts have a game to play to get to the Superbowl and the only way there is to win.

The team that scores the most points wins...............

God Bless the USA

Colts - Jets Analysis

Wow, what amazing insight...

darrelle revis is a shutdown corner and reggie wayne will have trouble against him, so look for the colts 2nd and 3rd option to get more looks.

WOW, WELL DONE SIR!  ITS AMIZING YOU DONT HAVE A REAL SPORTS WRITING JOB WITH THAT INSIGHT!

...also if you give a "slight edge" to the colts, then you wouldnt put the score at 27-16, thats 11 pts and alot more than a "slight" edge.

if the colts were favored by 11 pts, that is alot more than being "slight: favorites, no?

top notch stuff dude...

Colts - Jets Analysis

I think the 1 thing that could help the Jets is the fact that they played the Colts already so they have some info on how the Colts will handle the Jets blitz packages and maybe adjust them to give more problems to the Colts O-line. Its somewhat like how the the Giants benefited from playing the Pats late in the '07 season, althought the Giants had 2 weeks to adjust things while the Jets have only 1.
