Shane VictorinoShane Victorino is coming back to the Phillies and Domonic Brown will be there to greet him, as the team has sent down John Mayberry Jr. to make room for Victorino on the active roster.

Victorino, 30, went on the DL on May 20 after hurting his right hamstring a week earlier. He played two games each for Double-A Reading and Class A Lakewood, going 2 for 13 with a home run and four RBI. He was hitting .284/.343/.503 with six home runs and 19 RBI in 39 games before he was hurt.

Mayberry, 27, played in 45 games for the Phillies, hitting .231/.316/.365 with three home runs and 12 RBI. Mayberry started the season strong, mostly as a pinch-hitter, hitting .345/.424/.517 in April. He started five games and made 33 plate appearances. In May, he had g17 starts, but hit just .194/.275/.319 in his expanded playing time.

Brown has started seven games since being called up on May 21 and is hitting .324/.368/.529 with one home run and five RBI in 38 plate appearances -- numbers similar to Mayberry's first month in the majors.

Brown started the season on the disabled list after suffering a broken hamate bone in March.

Martinez is a rule 5 pick meaning the team he was originally can pick up his rights if they decide to send him down to the minors. Ironically its the same thing that happened when the phillies picked up victorino. He stayed with the club throughout the entire season. I'm not a scout, but you got to admit over the past few years, phillies scouts have been unbelieveable, if they see something in martinez, give the benefit of the doubt, we're in first place, and it give mayberry some time to see everyday ball...relax and enjoy the ride to another division title

this just  doesnt make any sense to me. why the heck did they keep that guy martinez when he doesnt even have any upside from what we already have seen? martinez is already 28. and we have valdez up here, also have pleanty of veteran infielders in AAA, pete orr and ronnie belliard just to name a few. now the only right handed hitters that could pinch hit for us if francisco plays would be valdez and martinez(HAHAHAHAHAHA you may as welll just throw in a lefty before either of them). also if you wanted speed and good defense, mayberry is just as good defensively in the outfield, if not better. and IMO mayberry runs the bases better and maybe just as fast as martinez. i mean come on martinez doesnt even have a stolen base yet, so what the heck is he here for??? versatility on defense??? well now guess what charlie you better hope howard never needs a rest cause now that gload cant even run the bases do you expect him to play first base for a game??? the only other backup for howard we had was mayberry and now hes gone. good thinking management........

Honestly this move is very stupid, but the only good thing i could find out of this situation is that it looks like brown is gonna be playing ALOT more now and even against lefties(unless for some strange reason they are deciding that martinez will be platooning with one of the lefties in the outfield and i really hope thats not the case). but still this was the wrong move and i am getting annoyed with them that they keep thinking they have something in martinez...

Brown woulda been the choice out of spring training if not for his injury, so this is no suprise. Mayberry will be back up when ibanez breaks a hip or is diagnosed with osteoperosis.
