Dodgers agree to 2-year deal with Mark Ellis

Matt Kemp is the big news in Los Angeles today, but the Dodgers may have made a smaller move as well. The team has agreed to sign second baseman Mark Ellis to a two-year deal worth $8.75 million, CBSSports.com senior writer Scott Miller confirms. Miller adds the Dodgers have a third-year option on Ellis.

The Dodgers' previous second baseman, Jamey Carroll, has agreed to a contract with Minnesota. Justin Sellers is the only second baseman on the Dodgers' roster.

Ellis, 34, hit .248/.288/.346 with seven home runs and 41 RBI with the Athletics and Rockies last season, hitting much better (shocker) once he arrived in Denver, hitting .274/.317/.392 with six home runs and 25 RBI in 70 games with the Rockies.

this kind of line can get you $4M/year?  has Major League Baseball become so watered down that mediocrity or less can provide you an opportunity to make that kind of money?  incredulous!  there had to be better options than this.  maybe someone in the dodgers organization could've taken a 2-week vacation in the DR and found some 16-17 yr old high school kid with some solid potential.  mark ellis for $4M/year?  shouldn't he be a commentator by now?

Hopefully the switch to a much larger market gives Eilis to showcase his glove and get him the gold glove he has long deserved!

Hey people......let's not forget the big news up here in Minnesota ! The newly re-elected GM Ryan went out of his way to make sure the Twins solidified the SS area by signing 37 year old, yes 37 year old, free agent.....someone called Jamey Carroll. ARE YOU SERIOUS pal. Welcome back to the big leagues. A move like that makes Bill Smith actually look like Einstein. Go back to your well deserved retirement Ryan as 37 year old journeymen just don't make a pityful team get any better ! Oh that's right...payroll. The Twins are cutting back to $100 million this year. Jamey Carroll...now that's a start for filling those soon-to-be vacant seats......
