Kevin Youkilis is a proper gentleman

Kevin Youkilis

By C. Trent Rosecrans

Mr. Kevin Edmund Youkilis is nothing if not proper.

Not only does he own a career .391 career on-base percentage, he also has manners befitting his polite Midwestern upbringing.

From Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, comes this tale of a child asking the esteemed Mr. Youkilis for the favor of a baseball, but doing so in a rather gruff, impersonal and some may say, rude, manner: "Hey, Youk, give me a ball," the youth crassly implored.
Kevin Youkilis looked up and said, "What's the right way to ask?"

Chagrined, the kid said, "Can I please have a ball?"

Youk tossed the kid a ball.

"Don't ever forget that for the rest of your life," he said.
Mr. Youkilis was a finance major at the University of Cincinnati, not an English major, or he would not have accepted that response. The proper why to ask the question would be, "Mr. Youkilis, may I please have a ball?"

Politeness is important, but so too is grammar.

This is my first "bashing" of CBS, overall I really enjoy the site- even the useless articles.  However, I am amazed that any of the authors would make a comment about a grammar mistake!  I'm sure that I make mistakes with my spelling and/or grammar, but my degree was not in Journalism or English.  I read article after article that has spelling and grammar mistakes, which I find to be very poor since I'm assuming the authors get paid to write these articles.

Mr. Rosecrans, what you've just wrote is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent article were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on their computer are now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Did Youkilis also teach the the "proper" way of charging the mound after getting beaned. "Now kid, afer you get beaned, run towrds the pitcher and throw your helmet at him like a wussy. That gives time for your teammates to come off the bench and defend you. Also kid, make sure you put a big piece of chewing tobacco in your mouth." Seriously, is this really an article. Wow, you could write this about more deserving baseball players out there and you single out Pukelis. Good ol' East Coast bias.

Now here is a case of Journalism going through the motions in spring training. Here's how you are supposed to ask for something. Mr Rosecrans...May you please come up with something worth while to read.
