David WrightInjury news and notes from Wednesday's camps ...

  • Pirates second baseman Neil Walker missed Wednesday's contest with back tightness. As a precautionary measure, he's likely to sit out the next two to three games. [CBS Pittsburgh]

  • While Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts is able to take part in some low-level baseball activities, he still has no idea when he'll return to game action or even face live pitching after suffering multiple concussions.

"It's still a progression," he said. "We have steps that we're taking, and it's a pretty systematic approach so I don't just go do everything I want every day. My doctor lays out a plan every day, and we kind of go by that. I'm definitely better than I was four months ago, so that's good. It's never as fast as you want, but we're getting there." [Baltimore Sun

  • Boston lefty Andrew Miller, who's in the mix for a spot in the rotation, won't be traveling with the team on Thursday because of slight stiffness in his throwing elbow. [WEEI]

If he's healthy, Willis will make the Phils, and will make them better.  He's probably done as a starter, but he's always been murder on LH hitters.  He'll be a tremendous LOOGY, who could go longer if needed.

Plus, he could always pinch-hit Wink

Brian Roberts' story is such a shame. He doesn't get the credit he deserves as a great player because he's spent his career cellar dwelling in Baltimore, and more recently, he just hasn't been able to stay on the field. I can guarantee the Orioles have had a lot of phone calls over the last five years on Roberts, but I'm sure once those medical reports are pulled out, the conversation is over.

As for the BoSox, the back end of their rotation is going to be scary. What if Bard doesn't work in the rotation? That was the move (non-move) that made the least sense to me from Cherington this offseason. There has been an assumption in Boston that Bard will work, and that they'll patch the 5 spot with an arm from somewhere. I thought Billy Beane turned down the Red Sox job years ago? In all seriousness, it just shocks me that the Yankees have improved, the Rays improve by default (they get a year of experience with that talented young team), the Blue Jays are coming on, and the BoSox make their biggest moves re-upping Ortiz, and replacing Papelbon with Andrew Bailey. Not only that, but they also shipped their starting SS out for a whole lot of nothing, likely now relying on a defensive whiz who can't hit.

If the Red Sox make the playoffs this year, it will come through the extra wild card spot, but even then, I don't see them being better than the Yankees, Rays, Angels and Rangers, and they'll have to beat at least one of those teams to make it to the dance.

Willis will NOT make the Phillies roster. He is just eating up some pre season innings. The guy is done!

Brian Roberts is probably also done. Too bad. I really loved this guys hustle. I just hope he can go on and live a normal life.

I am thinking of trying out for the Red Sox rotation. Talk about a bunch of losers trying out for the last two rotation spots.
