Papelbon: Philly fans know more than Boston fans

New Phillies closer -- and former Red Sox closer -- Jonathan Papelbon has never been afraid to speak his mind. Thursday morning, he did so on a CBS radio affiliate in Philadelphia -- and it likely won't endear him any further to the Boston fans he left via free agency.

“The difference between Boston and Philadelphia, the Boston fans are a little bit more hysterical when it comes to the game of baseball,” Papelbon said (CBS Local). “The Philly fans tend to know the game a little better, being in the National League, you know, the way the game is played."

To be fair, it's tough to tell if an athlete is pandering to a new fan base when something like this is said, and he did say he enjoyed the Boston fans.

"I’ve had a guy take of his prosthetic leg and throw it in the bullpen in Boston,” Papelbon said (CBS Local). “It’s a religion. It’s a way of life. They come to the field and they expect certain things out of players. It’s an environment where you put up or shut up. I enjoyed that. It got my motor running every day.”

So he wasn't attacking Boston or the Red Sox fans. Still, he did say Phillies fans are more knowledgeable and I can't imagine that sits well with Boston fans.

What say you, fans, was he right? Go ahead and vote, hash it out in the comments, whatever you wish ...

Hey, fish-for-brains - your ignorance is overwhelming, but your pathetic hatred is truly astounding. Your neuroses are getting in the way of any sense of reality that you may have had over the course of your narrow life. When was the last time they did a CT scan to see if anything was occupying your skull? You never post for anything - it's always a negative that's clearly a deep-seated envy of all things Boston. Your miserable life must be hell on Earth for you, you sad, tortured soul. You must live in a dead, putrid, pest-infested place, like New York or Philadelphia to hold so much jealousy for Boston and those that are fortunate to live in the country's cultural and educational mecca. But, you must have been absent the day they passed out intelligence or were you hiding in a cave?

Crfannies...Eagles have sold out forever too..its like a 60 year waiting list for season tickets...knicks and rangers have sold out? what only this year for the rangers(big frontrunning fans there) and knicks for 6 games with lin and thats it. Flyers have had the top 4 attendance over the last 10 years while the rangers are around a 13-15. Its also a dumb arguement considering that when teams dont do well the attendence almost always goes down for any team/organization. Yankees have had good attendence because they have been good for whatever amount of years. If they ever had a couple of bad years it wouldnt sell out. Not to mention the yankees percentage of people actually going to the games is lower then a lot of teams.
