Will Vincent Jackson be traded?

Posted on: June 29, 2010 8:32 pm
Could WR Vincent Jackson be on his way out of San Diego? Kevin Acee of the Union-Tribune , after talking to sources, writes that it’s a possibility.

From the article:

No one is predicting he will shipped off soon, and it does not appear other teams have been officially notified the Pro Bowl receiver is on the trading block. But several sources confirmed the Chargers talked with the Seattle Seahawks earlier this month and have made it known Jackson will remain available.

The Seahawks maintain interest, as do “several other teams,” according to one source. Among those teams, sources said, are the Washington Redskins. It is not known whether the Redskins have spoken to the Chargers regarding Jackson.

You’ll recall that Jackson and LT Marcus McNeill didn’t sign their restricted free agent offers, and GM A.J. Smith has given the indication that he’s ready to move on without them. Whichever team signs Jackson, though, better make sure it can offer plenty of money.

Daniel Snyder's net worth = $1.3 billion.  Jerry Jones' net worth = $1.5 billion.  Paul Allen's net worth = $13.5 billion.  If he really wanted to, Paul allen could buy Dan Snyder and Jerry Jones.

The real question is, would V-Jack really help the Seahawks?  Is he the guy that can push the team over the hump?  I don't think so.  But the guy has skills, and is coming into the prime of his career.  He is just a debacle in the making though.  A third DUI would pretty much screw the team that takes a chance on him.  Personally, I'd rather Allen buy a DE and a stud RB.  But having Golden Tate, Housh and V-Jack line up on the field with Carlson is an an awfully tempting scenario.  If Hass couldn't get it done with that group, I'd officially give up on him and throw Whitehurst in there.

It will probably come down to whoever gives the Bolts the most for him.  They will in all likelyhood entertain offers for him up til the beginning of the season.  Barring a team that gives them exactly what they want, I don't see a deal getting done any time soon.

But if Paul Allen wants him, he will be a Seahawk.  With no cap, the guy could buy a championship team in the next few seasons after getting a core to build around.  And there would be very little anyone could do to stop him.

"A team with plenty of money? Sounds just like the Redskins to me"?

um, you ever hear of a guy named PAUL ALLEN? He makes Snyder look like a San Francisco street bum. Which isn't hard to do anyway. The guy is a bum who needs to stay out of the way of Bruce Allen...if he knew what was good for his team. But he won't. Bum.

SteelHead...It's the guys that command a double on every play that are really valuable. Guys like Moss, Fitz, A. Johnson, Ochocinco,  and Carolina Steve Smith, will destroy your defense if all they have to beat is your #1 corner (Unless that corner is Asomugha, or Revis). SD has been trying to make Vincent Jackson guy, but he is just not up there with those elite level WR's.
I didn't see the #3 WR (Wallace?) play last alot last year, but the Steelers are really going to miss Holmes. That guy was dynamic.

How can you call a receiver whose biggest achievement was a 68 catch season a "stud"? He's tall - he better make some catches. Now he is pretending to be a prima donna top 10 receiver which he is definitely not.

a couple of issues here.  Are WRs really THAT valuable??  seems like every year new ones are makin' a big spash in the NFL.
MUCH more important is the QB and the O-line to give them time.  Look at how the Steelers got rid of Santonio Holmes for almost nothing.

Rivers will be successful without Jackson, so why throw a ton of money at him?
V-jack is now suspended for 4 games, so that hurts big.  All teams knew this would happen, and scares them away.  They want a quality player, but also one with no-risk off field.

Also, i think the Chargers will run the ball more next year anyway with LT gone & some new quality fresh legs.

They need to get rid of the over-rated Merriman, just as they did with Antonio-Cromartie and build the D back up.

Too much money spent on Jackson will not let them do that.
They need playmakers on D.

I know why the heck wont A.J. Smith give this man a long contract? He is a proven WR that will help any team that ends up getting him. But A.J. is going to ruin the Chargers. He says he wants to build a championship team, well to build one you have to have good WR and if a long conrtact is the answer then give it to him!!!! DUH!

LT, Cromatie, Ellison, and now maybe Jackson? Seems like the Chargers are breaking up the band. Merriman is likely gone next year. All of these players have had off the field issues (not LT) , but you can't let everybody go. Hopefully they can get McNeil resigned, he is another solid player they can't afford to lose.
I'm not a big Bolts fan, but I lived down there when Ryan Leaf stunk it up, it was really good to see them bounce back and make the playoffs all those years. The Bolts have done one of the best jobs in the NFL over the last 6-7 years buiding this very competative team.
