Minter looking to future coaching jobs

Posted on: July 5, 2010 2:46 pm
Former Panthers safety Mike Minter wants to coach at the college level, and he’s willing to pay his dues – and wait another two years – before he possibly gets an opportunity.

Darin Gantt of the Rock Herald Sun has Minter’s story. Right now, Minter is preparing for next season as the head coach of First Assembly Christian in Concord, N.C., but in the meantime, he’s eyeing the head coaching job for the first-ever UNC-Charlotte team that will begin play in 2013. The school will hire for the job next year, and school officials say they’ve promised Minter an interview.

From Gantt’s story:

When that day comes, he’s going to be ready.

“I’ve been in my lab, working on that formula,” he said.

Minter has talked to dozens of coaches, and leaned heavily on his former Nebraska coach, Tom Osborne, for advice. He’s also traveled across the South checking out other recent start-ups, such as Campbell, Georgia State and Coastal Carolina.

“I’ve talked to a lot of coaches about what you have to do, how you have to attack it,” Minter said. “Starting from scratch is a unique deal, and there are a lot of things that come up that you might not expect.”

Minter spent his entire career in Carolina and started all 126 games he played from 1999-2006.
