Former Eagles running back Brian Westbrook remains unsigned. Lately, he has been working out with Darnell Dockett and Visanthe Shiancoe in hopes of catching on with a team. The Redskins want to sign him (who, by the way, is a DC area native), but Westbrook realizes their backfield is already crowded with banged-up veterans (Clinton Portis, Willie Parker, Larry Johnson). Part of the problem is the soon-to-be 31-year-old’s reputation for injuries, (bad knee, concussions).
Westbrook recently spoke to Jason Reid of the Washington Post.
"A lot of people, they don't understand," said Westbrook "The way to heal is to rest. ..... They don't realize I didn't have any time to rehab or to just train for last season." Westbrook had surgery on his knee and ankle before the 2009 season.
"That's why I know this season is gonna be different," he continued, "because I've got time to work out, time to get in shape, time to train, time to be the best player I can be. There's no doubt about it when I go out and I'm healthy. This year I'm healthy. No excuses."
