Jersey's getting hosed on the 2014 Super Bowl

Residents of New Jersey (Jerseyians?) haven't been too thrilled that people associate "2014 Super Bowl" with "New York" and not both states. That's because, well, the game is actually being played in NJ. It's a reasonable complaint.

According to the New York Daily News , the Meadowlands commissioned a study that shows just how much the Big Apple is jobbing  the state of Jersey with the current Super Bowl setup.

Essentially it boils down to the fact that the only folks who will stay in Jersey are the media (COMMENCE GRUMBLING!) and that the presence of said media will "only" produce $20 million in revenue for hotels, etc.

On the other hand, the average person, according to the same survey, who visits the Super Bowl for pure football spectating enjoyment -- and not the horrible gruelings of having to cover it for work -- is a rich, white dude who makes above $200,000 and presumably enjoys spending his evenings dousing local, ahem, workers with $7,000 bottles of champagne before retiring to his $1500 a night hotel room where he eats grapes stuffed with brie cheese and caviar.

Or something. The point is this: a whole lot of cheddar gets pumped into whatever city is hosting the Super Bowl's economy. In fact, about $594 million.

"There is significant evidence that out-of-town game-day visitors profiled have deeper pockets," the study said. "Typically, four-night-minimum stays with elevated average daily hotel rates are met with a substantial consumer demand."

The Garden State's beef is that they'll get somewhere between 3 and 10 percent of it.

Even if their numbers are obscenely high (in terms of the total generated), it's safe to say that New Jersey has something to complain about.
