First, it appeared free agent RB Brian Westbrook would sign today with the St. Louis Rams. Then, it was the Redskins. Then, the 49ers got in the mix to sign the two-time Pro Bowler who’s had two 1,000-yard seasons in his eight-year career.

Turns out San Francisco is the one to win his services. A few days after Glen Coffee surprisingly retired from football, the 49ers have signed Westbrook to take his place, the team announced this evening.

More details to come later. The 49ers have scheduled a presser for 5 p.m. PT.

UPDATE (6:43 ET): According to's Jason La Canfora , "Westbrook took less money to go to 49ers than the Rams offered. He will make a base of $1.25M and could earn up to $2.5M."

Westbrook signs with San Francisco

He should have signed with the 49ers a long time ago becuase now all of the good players are off the team and now they suck balls. Now he's in a place where he has a better chance ofwinning a Super Bowl. 49ers are going to do much better with Westbrook on the team. They have Glen Coffee, Vernon Davis, and Frank Gore. They are all very well-known. He has a much better team with him that will give him the ball in clutch situations instead of the Eagles taking their chances on 4th down and a yard away from the 1st and they go hey why don't we pass the ball instead of running and not losing the game. Westbrook is better than anyone on the Eagles (Except DeSean Jackson).
