The New York Post is reporting that Jets WR Braylon Edwards was arrested at 5:15 a.m. today and charged with DWI. Police say he was pulled over and blew a 0.16 on a Breathalyzer test, twice the legal limit.

“We are very disappointed in Braylon’s actions,” Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum said in a statement released by the team. "We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures."

For now, Edwards remains in police custody.

More on this story as it develops.

(UPDATE 9:07 a.m.): Well, this is weird. Edwards - or somebody who works for Edwards' official Twitter page - tweeted an update about 9 a.m. today. "GoodMorning World...Winning is the goal, perfection is the aspiration, & dedication is the key to unlock the door #LetsWork "

To be fair, there has been a nasty bug out there on Twitter today. Usually, though, viruses aren't so ... so inspirational.

(UPDATE II, 10:33 a.m.): One reason this incident is so ... well ... ridiculous is because Edwards could have avoided putting himself in this situation by taking advantage of the Player Protect program. The program basically allows a player who doesn't feel safe driving him to call a phone number and make arrangements for a ride.

As Edwards recently wrote on GQ.com, "You can easily get caught up doing too much 'New York' - but you've got to manage it, understand your reason for being here."

Perhaps Edwards' ghost writer penned that entry as well.

(UPDATE III, 10:48 a.m.): Now we point you in the direction of a Twitter account that almost certainly hasn't been written by Edwards. It's called BeardOfBraylon, and it's gotten off a few good lines today. Like:

- Not right. I was just sitting there minding my own business RT @RapSheet @Mary_Paoletti a beard like that will get a guy arrested every time

- @SI_JonHeyman Braylon was supposed to be our designated driver. Then he got drunk. What the hell do I do then? I'm just a beard .

- Not my fault. He was so damn drunk it was all dribbling down into me RT @TimGrahamESPN gave breathalyzer when Pabst fell out of his beard.

(UPDATE IV, 2:42 p.m.): The arrest of Edwards on a DWI charge has not gone over well with his teammates and coaches. According to the NY Post, it might even lead to the team deactivating Edwards for Sunday's game.

(UPDATE V, 5:30 p.m.): Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that teammates D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Vernon Gholston were in the car with Edwards when he was arrested.

Braylon Edwards arrested on DWI charges

I cannot stop laughing.

The reason i cannot stop laughing because all of you are Jet Haters. If it aint dallas it's the jets.

On top of that, none of you have compelling arguments.

"Sweet baby jesus he drove drunk"

Yah...so do alot of us and several other star's for that matter.

i didnt hear any of you hate on Brady for the Accident.

Nor did i hear any of you complaining because of the Tiger incident.

But lawdy if every last one of you jump the bandwagon to Hatersville, while drinking your Hater-ade.

Anyway it's besides the point. Braylon Edwards 80+ yrd game with another TD. With what? No suspension.

Quite frankly it's so funny to see all of you babies complain and moan about B.Edwards and the jet's especially those who say he should be suspending for DUI and even comparing him to Stallworth or Jackson. Seriously, Stallwortj blew a .20 and HIT a pedestrian. While V-Jack was lame enough to get caught, jailed, bonded out, and then hit the slammer less than 48 hours later for the same crap.

But yet Edwards is just like them hmm?

would a trouble maker or "punk" have accepted all forms of punishment from team and league?

Long and short of this: Pat's Suck, stay on your own pages. Giants Blow wont see another playoff season for the next 6+ years. Dont get mad....get Glad.

Sargain that's gott be a joke....not that serious???  I hope you mean not considered all that serious by law enforcement (which is a shame), because then I would agree with you.  IF he was drunk driving I don't care how many people do it ITS VERY SERIOUS because IT CAN KILL PEOPLE.  You seem like someone who does this and tries to rarionalize that its OK but it isnt.  I hope that isnt true.  Yes I am a Pats fan but I think anyone who drives drunk should be caught and I am happy when they are.  EXPECIALLY when they act like an idiot on the field too, and yes even  a little more when it is a Jet getting caught.  I hope you mean not considered all that serious by law enforcement (which is a shame), because then I would agree with you.

Braylon Edwards arrested on DWI charges

You guys are all hypocrites.  Although I do admit that this COULD have been worst then what it is, i certainly don’t think this warrants such a harsh punishment.  You can’t vilify someone for having a lapse in judgment just because he is a celebrity.  You want to cut down on drunk drivers fine, go hang out in Manhattan around 3 4 am, you will find a lot of drivers leaving the clubs drunk.  Did he have options?  We all do, should he get suspended for games if not a game for that? Should we get suspended from our jobs if something like that happens to us.  Let’s be realistic here people.  He made a mistake no one was hurt thank god. Should he learn from this? I would hope so.  Has he a history of this? I certainly don’t see it.  What happen out in Cleveland no one really knows.  That guy could have said something about Braylon mom for all we know.  He has not had any issues as for as legal or behavior otherwise. He should be fined for this mess and go through whatever legal consequences there is.

Braylon Edwards arrested on DWI charges

I don't condone what Edwards did. It is reckless and irresponsible and they should suspend him...just not for this game. Suspend him for Game 4 against the Bills. It is not fair to the rest of the team and the fans to suspend him for this game against the Dolphins - it would put the team at a severe disadvantage. He deserves to be punished but let them at least pick somebody up first and give them a week of practice. Those calling for his immediate suspension are just Jet haters hoping and praying for the team to crash and burn.

Dont you guys get it??? What good is making all those millions of dollars if people cant see you flaunt it? And by flaunt it, I mean cruise around in your very expensive ride. That is why these guys dont get taxi's or livery cars, or limos. It is more important to be seen in your whip. By the way, couldn't have happened to a bigger d-bag...
