B. Roethlisberger (US Presswire)
With the first quarter of the NFL season in the books, several big name players will be returning from league-mandated four-game suspensions. The headliner, of course, is Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers relied on three different quarterbacks and wound up going 3-1 without their star.

Santonio Holmes returns to a Jets offense that’s riding a three-game winning streak and has put up big passing numbers in two of those games. Holmes will replace Jerricho Cotchery in the starting lineup and instantly become Mark Sanchez’s primary deep target. (Holmes is also a spectacular route runner who can play underneath.)

Brian Cushing returns to a Texans defense that is 3-1 but getting gashed through the air. Cushing is an assertive blitzer who can defend tight ends in the flats. He won’t fix Houston’s problems, but he could at least alleviate them.

There are also two smaller name players of significance coming back. The Titans will have brash outside linebacker Gerald McRath bolster their linebacking depth. McRath is a tad inconsistent in the open field but he’s a better athlete than veteran Jamie Winborn at this point. Expect McRath to start at some point, if not right away.

Supple second-year tight end Shawn Nelson returns to a Bills offense that pretty much hasn’t existed through four games. Nelson, thanks to fluid agility, has star potential, though it’s a question whether he can stay focused and be properly utilized in Chan Gailey’s offense.

The underlining story of these suspension is that the teams of the three stars – Roethlisberger, Holmes and Cushing – all went 3-1 during this early stretch.

Welcome back, suspended stars!

Ok, you didn't answer his first question. Would you, or would you not, allow your daughter/sister to go out with Mr.Rothlisberger?

Your second response reeks of hipocrisy, sir. So because Mr.Rothlisberger did not get charged with anything makes him completely innocent and it all suddenly becomes the woman's fault? How can you make the claim that your what-ifs are more valid? You alluded very well in your first response to what you think Ben's motivation was. Innocent until proven guilty works both ways, sir.

Also, yes, OJ was found innocent in the criminal case, but still lost the civil suit for wrongful death, which so many people seem to forget.

And lastly, how can you equate a comment on a blog to hysterical persecution that led to people being executed? One more step and you reach Godwin's Law there, sir.

Also LOL @ Steelers losing to RAVENS.

Welcome back, suspended stars!

@ rsternb1,

Answer this, would you be willing to let your daughter or sister go out with Ben, if the opportunity permitted?

My daugter would not be out in a bar at 2:00 a.m. in the morning looking for men.  She is aware of what jocks want at bars around 2:00 a.m. in the morning.

By the way, there were a lot of what ifs in your post.  What if he's a scumbag and actually did get away with rape?  I honestly don't know what really happened, but my gut reaction is that he got away with something (on more than one occasion)

My what "if's" resonate more true than yours simply based on the fact that Ben has done NOTHING.  Ben has been charged with NOTHING, so my "what if's"  are purely speculative to the motivation of the college girl in this case, since Ben has done NOTHING!

I honestly don't know what really happened, but my gut reaction is that he got away with something (on more than one occasion)

If you don't know what really happened then you must base it on the facts which are as of today, Ben has done NOTHING!  To say anything otherwise is saying that my "gut reaction" is more reliable than the truth as we know it now.  You sound prejudice against Ben when the facts say otherwise.

Also, OJ was proven innocent so I imagine you must be pretty upset that people have been trashing him all these years.  I know Ben isn't OJ, but based on your logic, we should all leave poor OJ alone.

I am a black man, of course O.J. didn't do it.  :0)    "The glove didn't fit so you must acquit."  Seriously, you are right Ben isn't O.J. but don't worry white man O.J. is doing time and won't be out for a long time so your daughter is safe for now.

You would of been a GREAT judge at the Salem witch trials.

Welcome back, suspended stars!

Jdawson,

You're right.  I'm sure Ben is a stand-up guy and a pillar of the community.  As you said, he hasn't been convicted of anything.  He's a victim of circumstances and just keeps up ending at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Answer this, would you be willing to let your daughter or sister go out with Ben, if the opportunity permitted?

Welcome back, suspended stars!

Ben has been convicted of NOTHING, and charged with NOTHING.  You love to hate people need to get over your hatered.  As far as the "law of the land" goes Ben has done NOTHING wrong.  What if the college woman was lying?  What if the college woman was gold digging?  What if the college woman was a groupie who wanted a disgression with Ben so she could tell her firends?  It is not like these things don't happen to professionals by women in the past who have personal motives.  Ben shouldn't put himself in harms way by these woman of the night.  Accusations like this are embarrassing to the NFL, the team, the players, Ben's family, and the fans which is what he was punished for by the commish.  In the country we are "innocent until proven guilty," (and there is no proof that Ben has done anything so with that it means he has done NOTHING, and to think otherwise is purely speculative, unfounded, and just plain gossip),  there is nothing linking Ben inside of anybody ( no what I mean) and to believe anything else makes you stupid in thinking that your interpetation of rumors and your wild imgination of the stories you herad are somehow evidence that proves his guilt.
