Max Hall to replace Anderson as Cards starter

M. Hall will take over for D. Anderson as Arizona's starting QB (AP). Posted by Josh Katzowitz

It looks like Derek Anderson’s reign as the Cardinals starting quarterback has come to an end – at least for the time being.

After Anderson beat out Matt Leinart in the preseason for the right to start, coach Ken Whisenhunt apparently will start undrafted free agent rookie Max Hall Sunday against the Saints.

That’s according to a source for the Arizona Republic’s Kent Somers.

As Somers points out, Anderson had the worst QB ranking in the league (a measly 59.5), and the Cardinals rank 31st in the NFL in offense.

After replacing Anderson in the Chargers 41-10 beatdown of the Cardinals, Hall went 8 for 14 for 82 yards. He also was sacked six times.

It’s also official: Anderson has been Wally Pipp’d.

Kool,  I have nothing against Arizona, Enjoyed Superbowl a couple of years ago, on being foolish, on giving up two 1st round picks, the thought here is that the Patriots would Trade down anyway, so If you could get Fitzgerald it would be a win, The Cards history is that they seem to make the Playoffs, maybe twice a decade and then return to being doormats, maybe this quarterback will be alright, but it will take him a few years, The Rams are getting Better so your window in a weak division is closing, and why did they not start Max from the beginning and he would have had the reps!

Nows the time to blow it up, send Larry Fitzgerald to New England, for at least their two #1 picks, one will be top five (raiders) you will be wasting Fitzgerald anyway The Patriots need a reciever, so you might be able to get more.

Arizona is the desperate team, not New England.  Only a fool would give up two 1st round draft picks for ANY player.  The Patriots are comfortable with the direction that they are going...they now have no choice but to be a more balanced offense, and it will work out fine.

Fitzgerald is an awesome talent, that goes without question.  But instead of hoping that the Cardinals "blow it up" and dismantle the team, why not adjust the game plan to fit the talent of the players that you have?  In a supposed "weak" NFC West, a .500 record may win the division title, so now is not the time to become desperate and stupid...get to the playoffs, and who knows what could happen?

Be patient and give Max the benefit of some reps.  I've seen the man play, and he's no slouch.  Give him some protection up front and the threat of a running game, and your team will be fine..."blow it up", and you'll be chasing your tails for the next decade.

If the Cardinals are patient and don't go into desperation mode, Max Hall will be their QB for a long time.  Being from Utah and having the privelege of watching many great Quarterbacks play through BYU's system, I can state that you don't get to be a starter in that system unless you have all the tools, intelligence and attitude of a winner.

The fact that he was undrafted baffles me, but the Cards saw enough in him to bring him aboard.  They will not regret this move.

YellI don't think Matt was given a fair shake by the Arizona coaching staff!! He's with a good team now, the Houston Texans! I'm a Rex Ryan fan, go Jets!!

Red Wing  you are right, The Patriots would not spend the money, but if it were my cash, this is one guy I would give it up for, this guy is a Stud! I know Arizona does not want to give him up, but they really could help themselves in the long run, 3 first round picks(one their own) Wing, I am not sure of the Trade rules in the NFL but if the Cards fall by the wayside, can they deal late in the season. They would be fooling themselves, to think they could compete for a title, by playing in that weak division

Great post jngkat !!  That being said I doubt the Cardinals will do that.... 2 reasons why it won't happen.

The contract extension they signed him to was for about 40 million with 30 million guaranteed.  With the signing bonus along with the roster and option bonuses and his salary so far this year he's received about 28 million dollars already.  Barely 2 calendar years since he signed the deal.... they won't give that money up and hand him to somebody else cheap.   The second reason is he has a no trade clause in his deal.  Could he waive it? Maybe, maybe not.  Only way I could see him waiving it is if New England is willing to sign him to a big money extension right away... are the Pats willing to do that?  Arizona already told him they'll talk extension again this summer, so he has a lot of money to lose if he goes somewhere without an extension.

But the 2 number 1 picks including Oakland's would be very nice for a rebuilding team... that would be 3 picks in the first round this year.... great start to rebuilding...
