Colts suspend punter Pat McAfee

The Colts have suspended punter Pat McAfee one game as punishment for his late night drunken arrest. McAfee was caught swimming in a canal in under 40 degree weather around 5:00 am Wednesday morning. (The Colts are on a bye but had practice on Wednesday). McAfee will miss the November 1 Monday Night game against the Texans.

Technically, the NFL is supposed to handle discipline for alcohol-related matters. However, if the NFLPA were to file a grievance against the Colts, it would need McAfee’s support. McAfee’s support in that case would almost certainly lead to McAfee’s release. The Colts aren’t worried about keeping a second-year punter happy.

Exactly. The kid is 24. I would rather hear about this than him behind the wheel of a car. If it is for more than 1 game it is too much. Not to mention he is a great punter as far as distance goes. Hopefully this is a wakeup to prevent the eventual DUI that may occur from continued behavior like this. Although, I have been wasted plenty of times walking the streets of Broadripple and I never took a dip. Slept on a strangers porch and yard, but never jumped in the canal.

The fact the McAfee was suspended does not suprise me. However, while I do understand that professional athletes are held to a different standard, this guy was just being a silly 24 year old man. While I am sure there will be several that will come forward and say that he should know better I must say this. I have worked in law enforcement for over 20 years. Being that said, he hurt no one but himself. He got a bit tanked and decieded to take a dip in the canal. While I would not recommend that to anyone from the Metro area a criminal offense was not commited. In fact, when he finally gets his day in court the Judge will specifically say this is an "infraction", not a criminal offense. Pat will have to pay a fine and probably have to pick up some trash on the side of a road for a day or two.

Being all of this said. I do not condone the fact the Pat was partying like a rock star and has the potiental of catching the LUK tag. For those of you that can't figure that out don't remeber #13 Mike Vanderjact.

Pat Mcaffee deserves a stern talking to and a slap on the hand. Polian, in this case appears to have overeacted. Lets hope the bye week heals us up.

Go Colts!

Guy's lucky he didn't get cut.  I guess Polian and co. were in a good mood.

Well it's all about the context. If he was alone or with some buddies, suspend his ass. If he was with three cheerleaders, give him a nice pat on the back or a bonus for pulling that kind of high class trim as a punter.

What's up with the liquored up kickers and punters in Indy? Remember Mike VanderDrunk calling out Peyton and Dungy a few years back? Hilarious...

Stupid behavior by McAfee. Colts do the right thing. Hopefully he learns from the experience, he's still young.
