On Sunday night, a curious decision to overturn Visanthe Shiancoe's 17-yard touchdown from Brett Favre midway through the second half, following a Mike McCarthy challenge, cost the Vikings four points and theoretically the game.

The NFL admitted on Monday that overturning the touchdown call was the incorrect move.

Brad Childress, who called the game the "worst officiated" he's "seen in a while" afterwards, told reporters that the NFL informed him the replay call was incorrect and that Carl Johnson, the head of officiating, was "disappointed" that the replay decision was made.

It was pretty clearly a catch, too -- though the ball did make contact with the ground as Shiancoe dove into the end zone, he had possession throughout the entirety of the catch. Unfortunately, the NFL can't retroactively give the Vikings an additional four points, so they remain stuck at 2-5 with a superstar quarterback limping around in an ankle brace as they get ready for a trip to New England.

Karma for the Vikings!  You knew this was going to end badly.  This is just the beginning.

i dont know what the NFL is thinking. i guess the ground can help you catch the ball now because that ball clearly hit the ground, but in the NFL's mind, the ball can help you catch now.

sure...and officiating is the best...but wait..didn't the league just say the call was wrong....

REPLAYS SHOWED SHINACOE HAD POSSESSION AND IT DIDN'T MATTER IF HE HIT THE GROUND OR NOT; HE HAD POSSESSION...

kinda like Calvin Johnson a few weeks ago...

same thing with the Chicago game where Cutler scored but they gave him a fumble...Samething with Miami where they recovered the ball but they gave it to Pittsburg for the win.

I rarely watch minor league football, but I did see the game in question and thought the officials were terrible when making live calls.  However, the replay calls were correct including the Shinacoe one...that ball hit the ground and was the only reason he was able to hold the ball.

I agree that the officiating was horrible.  I am just glad for once it led to a Packers victory instead of the other way around as in each of the last two weeks.  To the Vikings, as it is in all such cases, the only way to ensure that bad officiating doesn't screw you is to not let yourselves be in a position where a few bad calls costs you the game.

Calif,

Whay would the Packers be 3-4?  That touchdown would have made it a tie game and instead of going for it on 4th down maybe the Dumb A McCarthy kicks the field which if made makes is a 3 point Packer lead.  It's hard to say who wins the game.  yes it would have made it a different game but in no way guaranteed it as a Minnesota win.

We are dealing with it. The Quarless TD was just as bad. I thought he landed out, or at least close enough to challenge. After seeing him bobble from replay, that was NOT a catch.

The best part is, despite all this, the Vikings will still win the division, either 10-6 or 9-7. That is how bad the Packers and Bears really are.

OH, AND BY THE WAY, THE LOSS MAKES US 2-4, NOT 2-5. WE STILL GET TO PLAY THE PATRIOT GAME BEFORE COUNTING A LOSS.

hmmm.... interesting.  This is the same officiating crew that screwed the Packers last year in the Playoff loss to the Cardinals, as Rodgers was facemasked, and hit in the helmet on the play that cost them the game in Overtime.  I obviously didn't hear any viking fans complain then!  In fact, most viking fans back then laughed and laughed and laughed.  In other words, deal with it.
