Childress informed Shiancoe should have scored

On Sunday night, a curious decision to overturn Visanthe Shiancoe's 17-yard touchdown from Brett Favre midway through the second half, following a Mike McCarthy challenge, cost the Vikings four points and theoretically the game.

The NFL admitted on Monday that overturning the touchdown call was the incorrect move.

Brad Childress, who called the game the "worst officiated" he's "seen in a while" afterwards, told reporters that the NFL informed him the replay call was incorrect and that Carl Johnson, the head of officiating, was "disappointed" that the replay decision was made.

It was pretty clearly a catch, too -- though the ball did make contact with the ground as Shiancoe dove into the end zone, he had possession throughout the entirety of the catch. Unfortunately, the NFL can't retroactively give the Vikings an additional four points, so they remain stuck at 2-5 with a superstar quarterback limping around in an ankle brace as they get ready for a trip to New England.

It is hard to ever say what would of happen if this call was ruled correctly - but one thing to point out is McCarthy would not have got the 3rd challenge (he would of lost the Shiancoe challenge). That could of changed the game too as he would of lost a time out. And the officials clearly blew the first Packers TD.
It was a poorly officiated game and the refs should be suspended.
And been calling for the NFL to use a central replay official like the NHL for years. This is such a simple thing and makes so much sense. And works in the NHL so well.

OK, so are they going to fine or suspend the official who made the bad call??  The Players are receiving fines and suspensions for their poor judgements so why is their no public notice for the Ref's who screw up??

The officiating in the NFL is terrible. Even with replay they can't get it right. They should do like th NHL does and have the head of the league available to make the correct ruling on a replay call. Between the Calvin Johnson "non"catch week 1 and this call (and I am sure there are some in between), The Bears and Packers are both in positions they shouldn't be in. Bears should be 3-4, Pack should be 3-4, Vikes should be 3-4 and the Lions should be 2-4. The division should be wide open. People say baseball is in the stone age as far as replay but the NFL can't get it right with all the technology at their hand.
