Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik gave the clearest indication yet of why Tampa Bay is not outwardly punishing WR Mike Williams – arrested this past week on a DUI charge. It’s because, Dominik said, the only law broken by Williams in his opinion was speeding (for the record, he was 12 mph over the speed limit).
That’s what he told the St. Petersburg Times for today’s paper.
“We’re not going to sit a player for speeding,” Dominik told the paper. "And it looks to us as though that’s the only law he’s broken.”
Dominik also said Williams submitted to a voluntary urine test after taking two Breathalyzer tests (in which he was under the state limit of 0.08, though he did apparently fail the field test). To Dominik, that means Williams didn’t have any illegal products in his system.
Which means he’s totally comfortable in allowing Williams to play today. We’ll see soon if that was the right call.
