Thought Colt McCoy is secretly only 2-3 as the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns (and we thought he was such a winner, sigh), there hasn't been much discussion of who's taking snaps in Browns Town.

Actually, that's because McCoy's been really good so far, and has taken some tough losses -- including one against the Jaguars this week, that saw him injure his ankle.

And that injury might just open the door for Jake Delhomme to nab his starting job back, according to Dennis Manoloff of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

Eric Mangini told the press that the $19 million man is "back to 100 percent, or as close to 100 percent as anyone is." Because McCoy "definitely" sprained his ankle, it seems pretty unlikely that Mangini would force the possible franchise savior into the lineup during a lost season when he's already suffering from an injury.

But it's also unlikely he's too terribly concerned with letting Delhomme earn his hefty paycheck by trying to help Mangini keep his job in Cleveland. And yes, if Delhomme started it would be against the Carolina Panthers, who are currently paying him $12 million. Which is either way too much money for the potential rights to Andrew Luck (if the Panthers lose the game) or far too high per interception (the 50/50 scenario where Jake chunks four picks and the Panthers win).

If DelHomme does start, and the Browns' lose - then Jake will be playing 4th string for Buffalo next year. I say let him start and let's see where it goes.  Maybe the O-line and D-line don't want him in there and will let down just to get McCoy back.  Or..........help show Mangini the road out of Cleveland.  Many, many possibilities here. Can't wait!!!!

Being a diehard Browns fan like I am I follow this team more then any of the other Cleveland teams. The Browns have shown me alot of improvment this year and I don't see any reason for Mangini to get fired considering what the man has shown us this year. I also think that if Colt is hurt put his butt on the bench and let him rest. We have 2 decent qbs behind him. I am not saying they are great or good. I am saying decent. As a Browns fan this team has played above expectations from my point of view. I mean come on how many of us can say we thought this team would manhandle two of the best teams in this league and make the jets have a tough time. Lets just remember that we know this isn't going to be the year of the Browns but we have seen alot of good things for the future. Why risk hurting out "franchise" qb more. If Jake struggles then pull him for wallace but remember Jake was brought in as our starter so Colt didn't have to play and we see how that turned out. In parting, HERE WE BROWNIES HERE WE GO!!!!!! TAKE DOWN THE PANTHERS.

Let me get this straight? Seneca Wallace, and Jake Delhomme are both healthy when Colt McCoy gets injured and they decide to go with Delhomme? Are you serious? Regardless of people who want to tout the rookie as the best qb they have, statistically, and versatility wise (they'd be wrong. Wallace is the only Browns qb to have thrown more touchdowns (4), than interceptions (2). He has 9 rushing yards, and 9 reception yards. He's also one of very few starting quality quarterbacks in the league that could split out wide in the wildcat and ACTUALLY CATCH a pass. He's completing 63% of his passes right now for 6.9 yards per pass. Where as....Delhomme has thrown 1 td and 4 ints for 324 yards in 2 games and 1 start.

Dear Will Brinson.  Normally I don't complain about typos, but when you screw up the first word in your copy then you probably aren't doing a good job.

blockeisu7 you are exactly right.  Browns fans are so negative about everything, they don't even notice when the team starts to turn the corner.  How many games has Jake Delhomme played for the Cleveland Browns... 1 game I think before he got injured (which could happen to anyone playing in the NFL).  Most of the posters on this site hate the guy- and he's only played one game for God's sake!  Hey Browns fans, here's a novel idea, why not give a QB a fair chance before ripping him to pieces.  I'm not saying he's the future of the Cleveland Browns, but come on people, cut the guy some slack.

I also agree with the poster who contends that firing Mangini at the end of the season would be a mistake.  All the guy has done in less than 2 years is get rid of all the malcontents on the team and produce a team that plays hard and has been in every game but one this season.  Does no one in Cleveland remember how bad this team was the last 2 or 3 years. they regularly got beat by 20 or 30 pts per game, and were lucky to win 4 games a year.  This years team will not make the playoffs and may not win more than 5 or 6 games, but rest assured the stage has been set by Mangini for a successful run in 2011 and beyond.

If Colt McCoy is hurt, there is no reason not to start Jake Delhomme and see how he does against his old team.  He may have some rust built up after such a long layoff, but he should be able to pull off the win in the end.

Browns fans, we all know how hungry you are for a winner, but try to show a little class and have a little patience before spewing off all your frustrations on this site.  The Brownies will be just fine in the very near future if they just stay the course.
