No, it's not just a Fletch joke (although somehow the line doesn't appear in IMDB's memorable quotes section, harumph), having wages garnished is a real thing. And it happened to Pacman Jones.

The Bengals have been ordered to hold his paychecks in order for Jones to pay back the nearly $250,000 he owes Elegante Leasing, Co., a high-end car company in New York.

Jones originally lost a 2008 judgment to the car company, when a New York court ruled that he'd defaulted on the leases for a 2005 Lamborghini Gallardo Coupe and a 2006 Bentley Flying Spur, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Jones was defaulted because he stopped paying the for the leases and also wrecked the Bentley but never paying to get it fixed.

The cars were leased in 2005, according to documents, and Jones' attorneys are arguing that the car company didn't get appropriate legal service (read: they filed something wrong and it's a technicality) on Jones when the judgement was moved from New York to Cincinnati.

And, unfortunately for Jones, he's only making $545,000 this year, he's injured and there's no guarantee that the Bengals of 2011 will be the "we'll take whoever as long as they're cheap" Bengals of 2010. Although it remains likely that as long as Mike Brown's hanging around, that'll be the case.

CBS should garnish wages of those who edit this material.  Words are consistently either misspelled or used wrongly on this site.  In this case, the word judgment is correct the first time it is used,  but incorrect (judgement) the second time it appears.  Do you need competant editors? I'm available.
