Posted by Will BrinsonThe Giants didn't help themselves out a whole lot in the playoff hunt this year, and as a result, Tom Coughlin was considered a coach firmly on the hot seat heading into Week 17.
Turns out, that wasn't the case and Coughlin will definitely be back in 2011, according to owner John Mara. This news was first reported on The NFL Today by CBS Sports' own Charley Casserly earlier Sunday.
Mara said following the Giants win over the Redskins on Sunday that "there was never any doubt" about Coughlin returning and that he informed him last week that Coughlin's job was safe and not to "listen to the nonsense."
"The only time you make a coaching change is when the players aren’t responding to the coach. That is not the case here," Mara said via the New York Daily News.
Coughlin, for his part, was asked if he likes coaching under the gun of the New York media.
"Do I like it?" Coughlin responded per Mike Garafolo of the New Jersey Star-Ledger. "Of course not. Who likes that? Who appreciates that?"
On the other hand, coaching under the gun is better than not coaching at all, and Coughlin will get the chance to do that once more in 2011.
