Elway will oversee Broncos football operations

The Broncos have officially announced that legendary QB John Elway has been named executive vice president of football operations.

We told you about this a couple days ago, but the Broncos have laid out Elway’s new responsibilities.

“John Elway’s leadership, competitiveness and passion for the Denver Broncos will position this team for long-term success through his work leading our football operations,” team owner Pat Bowlen said in a statement released by the team. “John has won championships as both a player and executive, and his experience will be a valuable addition to this franchise. He is the perfect fit for this role, and I am excited to welcome him back to the Denver Broncos.”

Elway, according to the team, will oversee GM Brian Xanders and the Broncos head coach (and will lead that coaching search) “while assisting in the supervision of the club’s football personnel department.” There had been some thought that Xanders could be on his way out, so this release confirms he will remain in his position.

Elway will have final authority over Denver’s football operations, though he will report directly to Bowlen and Joe Ellis – who has been named team president.

At the very least, it’s a move that should fire up the fanbase, which was let down by the Josh McDaniels era (except, of course, for TIM FREAKIN’ TEBOW).

Agree with you on this. Xanders hasn't contributed to much "improvement" of the team, and I can't say Ellis made any strong input with the McDaniels and draft nonsense. With Bowlen, Ellis, Elway, Xanders and a yet to be selected "head" coach, seems like the Bronco front office and organization has a few to many talking heads and no one clearly leading. That said, lets see who the get a head coach and see what they make of the draft and if there seems to be any logic to their team building and direction.

Being from Wisconsin you must still be p-ssed off because Elway and the Broncos beat the Packers behinds in SB 32.  There is medication available for this.

Denver is screwed.  So, The Bucktoothed One is the general manager of the general manager, eh?  With final authority over coach and general manager and personnel?  Yep, Denver is screwed, and it's Bowlen's fault.  This is outright stupidity.

Elway will oversee Broncos football operations

It'll be pretty hard for Elway to "carry" the team as a vice president. Like I said before, the broncos will need a lot more than Elway to get them back to the show.

Elway will oversee Broncos football operations

John elway has joined the Broncos because of Tim Tebow and he wants to show superman how to fly in the NFL.  This is a man who went to the Superbowl  as many  times as Peyton and Brady combined.   I still think that Denver is about 5 years from making any kind of dent in the NFL.
