P. Manning (US Presswire)
Before Andrew Luck, the last surefire No. 1 overall pick who decided to delay his NFL career one more year and return for a senior season was Peyton Manning. Instead of leaving college to become the No. 1 overall pick of the 1997 NFL Draft (the Jets held the pick but later traded it to St. Louis), Manning remained a Tennessee Volunteer.

That decision, obviously, worked out just fine for Manning. So how much did that influence Luck’s decision? Luck’s father, West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck, told sports radio station KTAR on Friday that his son spoke with the Colts quarterback beforehand.

"(Andrew) got advice not just from his old man or his mom but from people like Peyton Manning, Eli and others who've gone through it," he said. "That information and that advice of course is invaluable."

Oliver Luck also emphasized that his son’s decision had nothing to do with the Carolina Panthers – or any other NFL team. Rather, as the Lucks have been saying, it was about getting a degree and Andrew loving the bond he has with his Stanford teammates.

"He has a real bond with the class that he came in with, his football classmates, his cohorts so to speak," Oliver Luck said. "It was Jim Harbaugh's first recruiting class there. Those guys committed to Stanford when Stanford was 1-11, which took a little bit of a leap of faith.

"He feels real tight with those guys and he felt like he had some unfinished business. He wanted to go out with his guys."

Snap, Crackle, and ** Pop **.

Rav4 1979,

Face Nation brings it strong and fast on the message boards, strong and fast. Thanks for the shout, welcome to the community, Moe. Garbage pickup is Tuesdays and Fridays, unless it's up to DSNY, where garbage pickup is once in December and once in January.

He is gonna have a degree from Stanford and probably a heisman trophy. His family appears well conected. Pretty sure even in the unlikly scenario of a carrear ending injury this guy is gonna have lots of finacial success.

Andrew definitely Lucked Up !

Moe, when he's ripping grass out of the Stanford turf becuase his knee gets all blown out like the 900 King, Brandon Lang, we'll see how UCP this guys is. Moe, all blown out Moe, like Paulie D Moe, blowouts. Moe, at least he used to wearing the helmet, because this decision was made by a Rehhh-Tard. Moe, can some cue Pat Summeral, "There's a man down", and Dan Dierdorf, "Well, you can only hope that his family's not watching right now".

Gee, let's ask Peyton Manning for help. Ummm, Mr. Luck, the Call-a-Ahead or Johnny-on-the Spot at the Manning ranch has MVP-potential QBs floating in it Moe, you should have called Jake Locker for advice, and ask him how many crisp hundos he pissed away by returning in 2010. Crisp hundos Moe. Crisp, like a Pringle. Crisp. Once you pop, you can't stop Moe. That is what your ACL and MCL are gonna be saying. Once you pop...Smarten Up Luck. Smarten Up. She won't divorce him, she'll kill him. Smarten Up.

Andrew Luck got advice from Peyton Manning

He's smart enough to ask the best out there, and someone that was in his shoes.  You can't go wrong following Peyton's advise.  But what's he think now that his coach is going to the Niner's.  Is Harbough one of the reasons he decided to stay, if so what's he thinking now?  If he dhas an outstanding year next year, and they win it all this will be a great decision, if he gets hurt, or falls on his face stats wise next year, this is a mistake.  That's what the experts will say.  My opinion is if in his heart this is the right thing to do, then do it, good luck and I hope you win it all next year.
