Jim Harbaugh is getting his first professional coaching staff filled out, and it looks very similar to his most recent collegiate coaching staff. The Niners hired Greg Roman as their offensive coordinator on Friday. Roman served as offensive coordinator under Harbaugh at Stanford. Prior to joining Stanford in 2009, Roman was an assistant for the Panthers, Texans and Ravens.

Additionally, Matt Maioco of Comcast Sports Net Bay Area reports that 11-year NFL veteran assistant Vic Fangio is coming aboard as the defensive coordinator. Fangio served in that same capacity for the Cardinal this past season. Fangio ran a 3-4 scheme for Dom Capers’ Panthers in ’95-’98 and again for Capers’ Texans in ’02-’05. This is important given that the Niners already have heavy investments in 3-4 personnel.

A third Stanford coach, Tim Drevno, will also be on San Francisco’s staff. Drevno was Stanford’s offensive line coach, though with incumbent O-line coach Mike Solari expected to remain with the club, it’s possible Drevno could go back to instructing tight ends. His exact title has not been determined yet.

UPDATE 6:34 p.m. EST: Our 49ers Rapid Reporter says the club will hire former Packers and Falcons defensive coordinator Ed Donatell to coach the secondary.

UDPATE 8:18 p.m. EST: Matt Maioco reports that the Niners will have two offensive line coaches in 2011. Drevno will share the duties with Solari.

You must have missed it, Manusky left and when he was introduced as DC in San Diego he said he's glad to be in a winning organization after treading on water the last few years. Not exactly in a classy way either. Of course, I'm sure the front office and Singeltary didn't exactly inspire greatness with the staff which trickles down to the players. I personally say, good riddance. Clean out the whole damned cupboard.

The Niners should have kept G. Munusky because our defense was pretty good under him. I knew if the Niners hired J. Harbaugh
that he would bring over his Stanford staff and I didnt mind him bringing over his OC because our offense was horrible but to
let go of G. Munusky was a bad choice!
