During the 2010 season, there was a lot of speculation about a possible Drew Brees knee injury -- in September a report surfaced that he had a sprained MCL and in November a radio station claimed the Saints were hiding a knee fracture and a torn meniscus in Brees' knee. Turns out, he was indeed injured -- the reigning Super Bowl MVP confirmed to Monday afternoon that he dealt with a sprained MCL for six weeks.

The question about Brees' injury stemmed indirectly from Jay Cutler's injury on Sunday night (for which he caught some grief) and directly from teammate Heath Evans' claim Monday morning that Brees played on a sprained MCL for six weeks.

"Yeah, I had an MCL sprain this year and was able to rehab it and play with a brace and it limited my mobility for a period of time," Brees told "But I was fortunate enough to be able to get through it.

"Nobody knows the extent of Jay Cutler's injury except for him and the Bears training staff, so nobody can comment on it fairly. I think it's unfair to do so just because you don't know -- you can speculate all you want."

Brees, in Hawaii at the Pro Bowl working with P&G and NFL Play 60, took a stance that contrasts directly with his willingness to play through the injury, but his point is a salient one -- it's impossible to know whether Cutler could have been effective or not with the injury. His lone series in the third quarter, while not all that different from his first half, indicated to the Bears training staff -- based on what Cutler said about the injury -- that he'd be unable to perform up to snuff.

Listen to the full podcast with Drew Brees -- he talks about Cutler, the Super Bowl, the Saints' expectations for 2011, the possibility of a lockout, Twitter, Play 60 and much, much more -- below.

Ditto, Anto. Cutler has an attitude problem. He can have his attitude, but for it to be ok, he'll have to produce more than he has.

Cutler needs an attitude change. He does not make his teammates any better. His ego won't let him celebrate and become emotional. He acts like he's elite and entitled.
He needs to put a lot more up on the scorboard for a few years to be able to enter elite status. Hopefully even then he won't feel entitled - but become grateful instead.

Deion Sanders is a piece of garbage.  Someone should have slammed his showboating ass to the turf. I despise that guy. Just as much as Barry Bonds, Brett Fart and Dogkiller Vick.

I agree JC played almost the entire Giants game concussed.  The loss is squarely on the coaching staff.  JC's play was subpar, but so was his line's.  Jay I don't luv you, but you are not a cry baby.  Nice way to call out Deion, HOFr yes, but never, ever even resembled tuff, he's the guy who invented turf toe for god's sake!

Dang, can we give this Cutler story a rest already people?  Its over.  We lost.  Even if Cutler stayed in the game we would've lost most likely.  We needed the entire team to step up and play like there was no tomorrow.  ONLY Urlacher, Peppers, and Forte were playing lights out.  They just werent prepared mentally.  Equals the fault of the coaches.

Look for next season to be a big one for Da Bears.  We'll get a few good draft picks.  Angelo already stated that they'll go after a few Free Agents.   Cutler will be fine.  Bears need to really get that O-line rock solid.  If Cutler has time he can carve up any Defense.  Hope we don't lose any defenders.  Major Wright will mature over the summer and be a real force in the secondary.  Where Chicago's only weakness on the defense was secondary.  GO BEARS!!!

Cutler was not playing well before he got hurt.  He looked even more inaccurate than normal and the offense was not moving.  If the coaches left him in the game to play hurt, people would complain that "they should have pulled him".  Take him out then he's a "wuss".  It wouldn't have mattered if Cutler played the rest of the game or not.  They still would have gotten the beat down.

UKfaithful- Hanie went on Chicago radio Monday morning and said that Cutler helped him multpile times during the game. The fact that TV cameras never caught doesnt mean it didnt happen. As to whether he could or couldnt play that was taken out of his hands since the coaching staff has come out and said that they not Cutler made the decision to take him from the game.

I'm not saying that Cutler is the most mature athlete in the league or that he doesnt act like a punk more often than not but the wrap he's getting from this game is unproven and unfair.
