Hot Routes 1.25.11: Still more talk on Cutler

  • Perhaps one reason why NFL players and some media ripped Jay Cutler to shreds for not playing most of the second half of Sunday’s game: he comes across as awfully aloof and doesn’t allow anyone to know him. Maybe even his fellow NFL players.
  • NFL.com’s Albert Breer breaks the story that Bears QB Todd Collins – you might know him better as Caleb Hanie’s warmup act – suffered a shoulder injury Sunday and he might need surgery. Meaning his 16-year career is very much in jeopardy.
  • Titans RB Stafon Johnson is suing his alma mater, USC, for negligence. He alleges that the weightlifting accident that crushed his larynx and threatened his NFL career was the result of carelessness by former assistant strength coach Jamie Yancher.
  • The Broncos have hired former Saints DB coach Dennis Allen to be their new defensive coordinator. Allen was considered a candidate for the Eagles defensive coordinator position as well.

Gee...Cromartie has an "It's all about me" attitude. Who'd have thought a rich athelete would think like that. Maybe that's one reason I'm not surprised he has all those children by all those different women. He comes off as a cheap stuck-up idiot. Maybe that's why he didn't invest in condoms. Wait, I better delete this before he threatens me like the cheap punk he is. While I hope there is no lock out, for the sake of everyone else involved, I will not feel sorry for himself or his selfishness.

The David Tyree catch was NOT fourth down.  If he doesn't get that, then the Giants get the first down on the next play.

Ben was never a hero in my mind

Well, that’s what this entire argument generated from. Callahan’s article slammed Ben, not the Steelers, but people took that as license to attack New England. I only pointed out the hypocrisy in defending him now that the team is winning when everyone was calling for him to be traded before the season. And I never said the tuck rule was a taboo subject. I agree that it is a stupid rule, just like the reversal of Calvin Johnson’s touchdown in week 1 for not maintaining possession after the catch, but in both cases the calls were correct as explicitly defined by the rules. It was certainly lucky but at the same time, you could also say that had David Tyree not gotten lucky, the Pats would have gone 19-0 and you wouldn’t be able to play the spygate card anymore.

I'll bet you're among the same Steeler fans that swore they'd never support the team again as long as Ben was on the roster

You would lose that bet.  Was I proud of what he did? NO.  Was I ashamed?  Yes.  But, my loyalty belongs to the Steelers not one player.  I saw what he did as a young man going fishing in a college bar using the oldest lure in the books - alcohol.  Was it the right thing to do? No.  Should he have known better? Yes.  Does that make him evil? No.

Now that the Steelers are going to the Super Bowl he's a hero again

Ben was never a hero in my mind.  He was a good QB that brought the Steelers back to Super Bowl Champions.  Heros are not made by atheletic performance but by character and accomplishments.  My hero growing up was Rocky Blier.  Not just for what he did on the field but his struggles off the field and determination to make it back to the NFL.  Thats a hero.

The term 'jealous idiot' would better be applied to anyone still crying about spygate or the tuck rule or saying it was all because of the kicker.

You can call out Ben for winning with defense but I can't bring up the fact that Brady won because AV was the best clutch kicker in the game?  Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.  You also say Ben's first SB was a gift from the officials but bringing up the tuck rule is off limits?  Oh and how about the fact that Brady can't win a Super Bowl when he doesn't know the defensive signals?  You can say what you want but the proof is there.  3 Lombardis with tape.  0 Lombardis with out.

I don't care about ancient history, TheClass_Rox. In terms of contemporary "dynasties", Pittsburgh's argument will be null and void if they don't beat Green Bay.
Then you are not a fan.  Period.   Narrow minded morons compare titles and try to 'outdo' other teams with the reforming of history.
You are going to not look at the GB SB wins in 67, 68, and 97?  They won those three -- whaddya know, same number of wins as NE has!!  Uh oh!  Somebody has the same number as the Pats.  Oh no!!
So to you, Jim Thorpe, Jim Brown, Steve Grogan, Raymond Berry, Bill Parcells .... all just names on paper?
Bring back Patriot Pat

What a surprise to see all the Ben apologists coming out now. I'll bet you're among the same Steeler fans that swore they'd never support the team again as long as Ben was on the roster. Now that the Steelers are going to the Super Bowl he's a hero again. Funny what winning will do to perception of a player.

@ the last three posters

I don't know what there is to be jealous of the Steelers about. We already won three titles this decade and one of your two was a gift from crooked officials, which they even admitted. The term 'jealous idiot' would better be applied to anyone still crying about spygate or the tuck rule or saying it was all because of the kicker. The same could be said about the Steelers owing everything to their defense when Ben the Rapist... er-- Hero, plays like crap as he did agains the Jets. I appreciate the Steelers beating New York but they almost choked that game away with a four score lead. Not exactly the mark of a champion. So I'm glad the lesser of two evils advanced and I hope you enjoy a well earned ass-kicking from Green Bay.
