Carson Palmer's unhappiness a 'one-way street'?

The Carson Palmer dissatisfaction issue in Cincinnati is an odd one -- the Bengals won't trade their "franchise" quarterback, even though he wasn't very good in 2010. And Palmer, even though the Bengals inexplicably love him, wants out.

Dan Pompei of the National Football Post has some interesting info in his Sunday Blitz though, especially the fact that he hears the apathy in Cincy is a "one-way street." (Running east from Palmer to Brown.)

Reportedly, the team is "taking Palmer off the hook" for his shoddy performance last year and pinning his lack of success on the people that surrounded the quarterback offensively. Pompei writes that the team will "try to rectify the situation by making sure the locker room understands Palmer is the only leader."

Now, without pointing fingers, um, "Terrell Owens." It's also possible that the Bengals could dump Chad Ochocinco, although it might be difficult to put him in the "best situation" with just youngsters Jordan Shipley and Jermaine Gresham serving as receiving options.

Bottom line is this: the Bengals truly believe that Palmer hasn't lost a step performance-wise (arm strength, etc.) and is capable of returning to Pro Bowl form in 2011.

Well, either that or they're doing a hell of a job trying to prop him up as a desirable trade asset for someone like the Vikings or Redskins once the labor situation is sorted out.

Carson Palmer's unhappiness a 'one-way street'?

What you said about Mike Brown is about as close to the truth as I suppose anyone can get, unless they wish to be more wordy.   I am not -- repeat, NOT -- a football fan. During the entire season I might watch 15 minutes worth of the stuff, and I don't even watch the Super Bowl or any of the other "championship" games.   But I pay a great deal of attention to the way businesses are run, and I must say that Mike Brown's stewardship of the Bengals can only be described as pathetic.  His management team -- I'm talking about those who advise him directly at his corporate office -- seem to be completely out of touch with the rules that eventually lead to success.  Of course, one might be able to say the same thing about the ownership of most NFL teams, I don't know.  As a resident of Cincinnati, I can only talk about the Bengals, who, I've heard, are also nicknamed the "Bungles" by many disenchanted fans.  All I can say is, if P&G and some other large Cincinnati companies were run like the Bengal franchise, it wouldn't take long for them to be out of business altogether.  If there is incompetency, it can usually be traced back to the failings of top management.

OK Folks, step back a second... Is it possible that Carson is aware that his wrecked body and self confidence are the unsumounntable problem and knows he's just burned out and will never be the Carson we grew to love and respect? He's a good and decent man I wish him and his family the best... Go enjoy the next stage of life Carson, God Bless! Cincinnati has always survived!!!!Frown

Carson Palmer's unhappiness a 'one-way street'?

Of course the unhappiness is a one way street.  For those of you who don't know Mike Brown, here is the one basic fact you need to know-- he worships at the alter of the "franchise QB".  He always has and always will.  To him, Palmer is a surrogate son.  While Palmer's desire to leave is more out of frustration with the "circus" atmosphere surroundin the team, the relationship between Palmer and Brown is still "friendly".  There have been indications that the trade "demand" has at least gotten Mike Brown's attention.  Whether or not that means significant changes will be made to mollify Palmer are yet to be known.  I do know this.  Before the trade desire was made public, it was clearly obvious that the organization was circling the wagon around Palmer.  Marvin Lewis indicated that no longer would anyone be allowed to steal Carson's thunder-- i.e. a swipe at T.O. and Chad as well as a clear indication that Lewis expected Palmer to be the undisputed leader on the club.  You have to take Mike Brown at his word when he says that Palmer is central in the Bengals plans in moving forward. There is no starting caliber on the roster who can subplant Palmer.  There is no QB in the draft who can start from day 1. Mike Brown and the Bengals are NOT pumping Palmer up to make him look more attractive for a trade.  The organization EXPECTS Palmer to be the starter.  If anything, they are all hoping that he finally leads the team to a championship.
