Well, at least Albert Haynesworth finally showed some fire and intensity. Too bad it was off the field and against the law.

Tom Jackman of the Washington Post reports that the Redskins defensivA. Haynesworth (US Presswire)e tackle has been charged with simple assault for a road rage incident with another motorist on the Fairfax County Parkway. Haynesworth has not been arrested but plans on turning himself in next week.

Jackman provides the details of the alleged incident:

The episode occurred Wednesday morning, and involved a 38-year-old man driving a 1994 Honda Civic and another driver, allegedly Haynesworth, both driving south on the Fairfax County Parkway, Broderick said. The driver of the Civic reportedly felt that a pickup truck following behind him was tailgating, and issued a "non-verbal hand gesture" to the pickup driver, Broderick said.

About 9:16 a.m., at the intersection with New Dominion Parkway, near the entrance to Reston Hospital Center, the two vehicles came to a stoplight. Broderick said the driver of the pickup truck emerged from his vehicle, had a brief exchange of words, and then struck the Civic driver.

She declined to be more specific about the circumstances of the assault.

A simple assault is a class 1 misdemeanor and carries a fine of $2,500. A maximum jail sentence is 12 months, but not a soul out there believes Haynesworth will ever face any time behind bars.

UPDATE 12:30 p.m. EST: Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, has issued a statement (via Pro Football Talk):

“Albert has yet to speak to the authorities at all on this matter,” Speck said.  “So only one side of the story has been told at this point in time.  If contacted by the authorities, Albert will certainly cooperate in any way.  This man, who actually provoked the situation himself, recognized Albert and is now simply trying to turn it into his 15 minutes of fame and get, we can only assume, some money.

“Albert did not assault this man and looks forward to his day in court to refute these ridiculous allegations.”

Seriously, I think its that part of town that brings it out of him. The mean streets of Reston will change a man and not for the better. Just yesterday I saw someone go through an intersection...right after the light turned red.

If the REDSKINS can find a way to get the pickup truck on the field, we'd have a hell of an defensive front.  Albert could drive into the backfield get out and slap the QB....

God damn I hate lawyers. I hope the victims lawyer brings in a tape of Albert stomping on an offensive linemans head as means to characterize this waste of air and give some weight to the probability of these "ridiculous allegations".
