The 400 fans who were left out in the cold at Super Bowl XLV aren’t the only ones getting an apology gift from the NFL. The league announced Thursday that approximately 2,000 fans sitting in the temporary seating section at Cowboys Stadium this past Sunday will receive either a full refund of their ticket or a ticket to a future Super Bowl of their choosing.

The reason for this largess? These fans were significantly delayed in gaining pregame access to the game due to complications with the temporary seating. When you attend a Super Bowl, the festivities and buildup are part of what you pay for.

Hindsight is always 20/20, and it’s easy to use the word “should” in scenarios like this, but it’s apparent that Jerry Jones should not have tried to break the Super Bowl attendance record. Cowboys Stadium is palatial, but for a Super Bowl, it simply isn’t equipped to hold as many fans as the Rose Bowl.

This isn't to say that all of the temporary seats failed. The NFL points out that there were 13,000 temporary seats installed at Cowboys Stadium for Super Bowl XLV. The Arlington Fire Marshall inspected and cleared for use 11,740 of those seats.

In the same memo, the NFL also said senior staff members so far have personally contacted 260 of the 400 seatless fans to explain their options and how to confirm and fulfill their choice.

All this talk about what the NFL and Jerry Jones owes the fans for ruining their SB trip largely overlooks the fact that this wasn't the result of some fluke or act of God, but rather the personal greed of the aforementioned J. Jones and to some extent the NFL.  How many seats are in the stadium? NO, not "temporary" seats, but ACTUAL seats? That's how many tickets they should have sold, that's how many people should have made trips to Dallas and that's how many satisfied customers there should have been. Instead, Jones wanted to try and break a record for attendance, and the NFL wanted a notch in it's cap as well. Does anyone think the revenue from those 2,400 seats comes remotely close to the megabucks each team gets from the TV rights deal?!  Not even.  So this is really about a few egotistical men (and women I'm sure) trying to get ahead of themselves and then ruining what should have been a once in a lifetime experience for some genuine NFL fans to enjoy a trip to the SB.  I think the League should be falling all over itself to try and make up for this fiasco, and in the end all of these fans got denied a unique experience that cannot be replaced.  Way to go JJ and company!

I love it when little people, like LittleVoices, act big on the internet.  I also love the fact the Steelers, due to all their winning, the relentless winning, being in 1/3 of all the Conference Championship Games and in 1/5 of all the Super Bowls, have maid them the Yankees of the NFL.  Everyone wants to hate the team on top.  Yes, LittleVoices, you DO look little from the top of the mountain.
As for this article and the NFL, I was critical of how they handled this just a few days ago.  But now, it looks as if they are doing due diligence and getting it right.  Nice going.  Keep it up.

Give them all 5 grand to cover game, plane, hotel, parking, food, you sold me a package. not just the ticket. and divvy up a free Bowl of thier choice, but limit it to 200 per any game or something like that.
It's public relations. And if its people with kids.. give them some trinkets.
The NFL is a billion dollar business, and they're treating a measly amount of fans so cruddy. total amount of out costs. About $1mill.
Total amount PR - PRICELESS!
Tyou give em that, and they'll spend 30,000 grand apiece.

Wow, the NFL is in a generous mood, at this rate all Steeler fans will soon get free Superbowl tickets, because the NFL feels bad that their team lost.
