Big (and bad) news out of Denver: multiple media outlets are reporting that Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has torn his Achilles. The injury occurred during a workout in Georgia. (Thomas is from Montrose, GA and attended Georgia Tech.)

Supple athleticism and raw strength made Thomas the team’s first-round draft choice this past year. Injuries limited him to just 10 games (2 starts) in 2010, and he finished with 22 receptions for 283 yards on the season. However, Thomas’ raw talent was noticeable.
At the pro level, Thomas is more of a methodical possession type receiver than speed demon. But an Achilles injury is difficult to overcome no matter what your style of play. If Thomas does play in 2011, it might not be until after the leaves fall off the trees.

At some point, receiving depth becomes a question for the Broncos. Another young wideout, Eddie Royal, already had hip surgery earlier this month. Royal is facing at least five months of rehab.

Demaryius Thomas tears his Achilles

Elway says that Orton is his qb so maybe Timmy T can play wr.  After all, he does "want it more than everyone else" and does "work harder than everyone else".   Everyone knows he's a "great kid"  and can do "anything he puts his mind to".  Surely that's the answer here.

Demaryius Thomas tears his Achilles

It seems to me worthless to cry over spilt milk.  Though injuries to Thomas and Royal suck, at least they occurred in the offseason with time to heal.  And, they happened to players at a position where the Broncos actually have some depth.  Perhaps this will give someone like Eric Decker the chance to shine.

As for the draft, there's no doubt that Denver needs to draft defense first, but I think they need to try to recoup some of the picks McDaniel unwisely traded away.  At #2, they're actually in a position to trade down a bit and add picks, I think.  Buffalo picks #3, and they certainly could use a QB--and I see several of the mock drafts have them taking Blaine Gabbert.  As the draft gets closer, QBs start looking better and better to teams without good ones, so it's likely one of the QBs will start to rise up the board.  That means that if another team (Arizona, SF, Tennessee, WASHINGTON or Minnesota) wants the 'best' QB, they may have to jump Buffalo to get him.

If that happens, the Broncos can trade down a bit and still draft for the D-line, which is a very deep position in this years draft.  And, they might be able to grab a few more picks to fortify the rest of the defense.  I don't think they can turn things around for next season--assuming there is one--but with a few shrewd moves, they could set themselves up well for 2012.

Demaryius Thomas tears his Achilles

BroncosFan66 is right on. Everybody thought the Broncos were gonna take Dez Bryant.  But Mcdaniels liked Thomas' "character" even though he was hurt.
That's the same reason McDorkus passed on Bryan Orakpo and took KNowson Moreno the previous year I guess.
The Broncos were a middle-tier talent team when McDaniels came, and after two years we are easily bottom 2 or 3 talent in the NFL. We are several years from being a wild-card contender (and thats if the Broncos make solid strides and get lucky).
Tebow has good character, I guess Brady Quinn has better character than Peyton HIllis had too.

Broncos should have gave Marshal the money he absolutely deserved. Marshal, Llyod, and Royal would have been as good as it gets in the NFL. I like how denver drafted a guy with the same measurables lol. I like to compare B. Marsh to T.O.  WR's like that atitude aside, COME ONCE A DECADE. Broncos acted like he got busted for steriods or pot.

Just another botched player movement deal by broncos. Hillis, Scheffler, Marshal, cutler, among others all quality starters that slipped through this teams hands.  IF they had a GM with Balls and common sense half those guys would still be here

McDoosh got another one right! Dez Bryant was the freakin WR the Broncos should have picked. I was pissed when they passed on him and im pissed now that another draft pick of his was wrong. If this guy EVER gets another head coaching job the owner should be forced to give up his franchise. This Demaryius was and is a walking health bomb! Tebow will not be in the league long. Ayers is too Small and soft, Moreno is another health headache. Maybe McD can mess up Bradford. McD is not that good of a offensive Coordinator he had Tom Brady for crying out loud! And Cassel give a freaking break he will never be anything but average idc he made the probowl nobody from the afc qb wanted to go. Man it sucks to be a Broncos fan right now which i am. We BETTER get our top 3 picks to be studs. DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
