There are three names -- Kevin Kolb, Donovan McNabb, Vince Young -- that really stand out when discussing free agent or trade options for teams in need of a quarterback. But it might be time to add a fourth: Matt Flynn.

The Packers backup quarterback, who nearly took down the Patriots in their Week 15 Sunday night primetime matchup, is drawing a lot of attention from other teams, according to Dan Pompei of the National Football Post.

Pompei cites Green Bay sources who believe Flynn is "ready to start" -- the obstacle to that is, clearly, Aaron Rodgers.

Green Bay doesn't likely want to get rid of Flynn, but he's "developed consistently" under Mike McCarthy and the current Packers coaching staff, and it's hard to imagine that his value will get too much higher than it is right now.

Because there are so many quarterback-needy teams -- Carolina, Washington, Minnesota, Seattle, San Francisco, Arizona, Miami and Tennessee all fall under the "immediately desperate" category -- the Packers stand a good chance of getting a high draft pick in exchange for their backup.

Pompei believes it's possible for Green Bay to pull a second-rounder, and that seems like pretty fair market value. Although if that's the case, you can probably rule Carolina, Washington and Minnesota out of the running -- the Panthers don't have a second-rounder, the 'Skins just traded a second-rounder for a QB last year and the Vikings are in the same division.

But if one of those other teams really wants a quarterback right now, and they see the draft as the only opportunity, a second-rounder for a young, ready-to-start QB like Flynn might seem like pretty good value, as opposed to reaching for a project like Ryan Mallett or Jake Locker. Especially when you consider what Washington paid for McNabb last year.

Packers' Flynn drawing a lot of trade interest?

Nobody mentioned the fact that Flynn has a national championship ring & super bowl ring.  Sure, both of which were from the bench but what team wouldn't like that kind of luck on their sidelines?
Actually Flynn has 2 NCAA National Championship Rings.  He was a redshirt member of the 2003 LSU BCS National Championship team and led the 2007 LSU team (started all games except the Middle Tenn and Sec Championship games, but was Offensive MVP for the 2008 BCS National Championship Game against Ohio State).

Packers' Flynn drawing a lot of trade interest?

Just FYI, Flynn was the starting quarterback for LSU the entire 2007 BCSNC season. So he's just not a good luck charmLaughing

He has show potential in the preseason & the Pats game was impressive when you concider he only had one week of first team practices.  He doesn't have the resume depth that Cassell had, but he could be a solid rebuilding piece for a team like Carolina or Tennessee as appossed to drafting a wildcard QB and throwing him in behind a horrible line.  Hasn't anyone noticed that QB's like; David Carr, Alex Smith & Brady Quinn who have all the talent in the world in college end up being drafted by horrible teams with no offensive lines or weapons and they get shell shocked when thrown in to play thier rookie seasons.  Hell, Dan Marino couldn't have played any better in those circumstances.
And Green Bay has turned out some solid QB's in the last 20 years, & they never started a game before leaving; Matt Hasslebeck, Aaron Brooks, Mark Brunell & I would love to add Kurt Warner, but he was cut by the Packers in the preseason.  Let's see, that's 4 Superbowl appearances & multiple probowls from players that rode the pine in Green Bay.
Flynn could be next?

Mike McCarthy the QB factory or what?  The coaching staff has done well with Rodgers and Flynn looks the part as well with the limited game time we have seen from him.  Lets see him in a few games before we go off on him.  But I do agree a second round draft pick for a young NFL ready QB, and my team is in need of one, well sign me up.  Here is hoping Miami doesn't get any bright ideas here, the way Flynn looked against the Pats this year, Buffalo may also take a peek?  He played like a trooper against the Pats, but then again and I quote " their defence couldn't stop a bloody nose"  Man I love that one, and I'm a Patriots fan.  Go Pats.

Whitetrash, let me asj you sonething, do you beleive any of the playoff teams would have been there with Henne?  Answer: NO! Once again our beloved dolphins screwed up, he has not developed, slow afoot and makes horrible descions when under pressure.  Flynn is an upgrade, even with a lot of unknown about him.
