Looks like tight end Zach Miller will be slapped with the Raiders’ franchise tag. Reason being, the other tag candidate, Richard Seymour (a man for whom getting franchise tagged has become a way of life), has agreed to a two-year, $30 million contract with the Raiders. This according to Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter.

All but $7.5 million of the deal is guaranteed. Seymour will get $15 million guaranteed in 2011 and a $7.5 million bonus in 2012.

The 31-year-old defensive lineman is coming off yet another Pro Bowl caliber campaign. The Raiders dealt the Patriots their 2011 first-round pick (which turned out to be No. 17 overall) in exchange for Seymour in ’09. He was unable to reach a multiyear deal with the club but discussions always remained amicable.

UPDATE 11:30 a.m. EST: Jason La Canfora of NFL.com says he's hearing Seymour's contract is for four years. Stay tuned.

Tommy Kelly is the most overpaid D-lineman in the history of football, but with the help of seymour finally made a cut of his money last year. Kelly had 8 sacks at the dt position. Kelly needs this kind of mentor and motivator for now, so that when he does leave kelly can come into his own. The young line for the Raiders are sack machines thanks to seymour with 30 between the four, Housten, Kelly, Shanaussey, and Seymour. The move does not just negatvily effect the the raiders pockbook, but it is a huge boost for the confience of a young growing defensive line! Al will get the players he wants and knows he needs. This is in no way a bad move! Seymour is more than just a player on that Raider Defense, and now they can tag Miller!

Well Detroit Foley's, since the Raiders went undefeated in the division last year, its the Chiefs and Chargers who need to learn to beat them....

Big Ben makes $13m and Big Rich gets $15m.  That seems appropriate.  Keep in mind, Campbell makes a whole lot less than Polamalu, so when you compare and talk about the cap - you have to look at the whole picture.  Big Rich is more important to Oakland than Campbell is.  Ben is pretty darn critical to Pitt.  Also, Rich didn't rape anyone.  (cheap shot, I know)

You can rag on Al for a lot of things (and justifiedly so), but he is pry the best in the league with the cap.  For all the "I can't believe they gave so and so that much money" talk, they never have cap problems and they resign their guys when they want to.  (coaches are another story).  Other teams get mad cause the Raiders set the market at certain positions (other than QB) and they wind up with cap problems.  Boo hoo.

I'm glad Sey got paid but the fact remains that there is a salary cap in the league and giving this kind of money to someone over 2 years IS going to affect how you are able to compensate the rest of your team.
We haven't seen how much is in signing bonus because that doesn't count against the cap but we do know that 21 million of it is guaranteed money.
Seymour is an incredibly talented player and a guy I was sad to see go when the Pats traded him but you have to understand that if you pay Seymour, now you have to pay Nnamdi too that's 2 really big contracts on the defensive side of the ball alone makes it tough to pay some of the  otehr guys on defense and guys on the offense.
To deny that a contract like this doesn't affect the cap and how the Raiders are going to be able to pay the rest of their team is just fooling yourself, that all being said it just takes some extra work to find the guys who can contribute to the success of the team without drawing too much from the payroll

Whate games weren't you watching?!  Another Raider fan has already dished out Nnamdi's stats for the last 3 years, and 2010 was an awesome season just like the rest.  He isn't an injury worry despite your singular comments, and he's been nothing but high character on and off the field.  He leads by example and has stepped into the void left by Woodson's departure to GB better than anyone could have hoped.
They need to pay Nnamdi and then use whatever's left to bolster the O-line.
The Raiders can add a cagey veteran WR (there are plenty on the FA roles) to augment that weak squad.
Then settle on one of these mediocre, journeyman QBs and quit picking at that sore.
RUN THE FREAKIN BALL!  Pound that rock with Bush and McFad both in the backfield, let those fast (but talentless) young WRs run off the corners, and keep the safeties honest with Miller up the seam. Simple gameplan but proven.

The price for Seymour may be a bit higher than desirable, but it's all that money Al gave to Kelly that is killing the Raiders organization now.  They could've kept him for half that much, and Al was stupid to make him the highest paid, underperforming, lazy, fat DT since JaFraud. (I know he was sort of a QB, that's the joke...)  But all that said, they need Nnamdi and Seymour to make that defense work, and they'll have to make do with small name players giving blue collar, old school ball control on the offensive side of the ball.  Don't know if Al can handle that, but we'll see.

top 10 highest paid steelers.....you can buy 2 or 3 guys for 15 million.....seymour is grossly overpaid and the raiders will not be winners because of it.  You can only pay so many under a capped system.  To be the best you have to imitate the best.

QBBen Roethlisberger$12,250,000.00SSTroy Polamalu$8,295,000.00LDEAaron Smith$6,600,000.00LCBIke Taylor$6,530,000.00LTMax Starks$6,420,000.00OLBJames Harrison$6,355,000.00WRHines Ward$4,850,000.00TEHeath Miller$4,699,000.00RDEBrett Keisel$3,925,000.00ILBJames Farrior$3,825,000.00
