Looks like tight end Zach Miller will be slapped with the Raiders’ franchise tag. Reason being, the other tag candidate, Richard Seymour (a man for whom getting franchise tagged has become a way of life), has agreed to a two-year, $30 million contract with the Raiders. This according to Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter.
All but $7.5 million of the deal is guaranteed. Seymour will get $15 million guaranteed in 2011 and a $7.5 million bonus in 2012.

The 31-year-old defensive lineman is coming off yet another Pro Bowl caliber campaign. The Raiders dealt the Patriots their 2011 first-round pick (which turned out to be No. 17 overall) in exchange for Seymour in ’09. He was unable to reach a multiyear deal with the club but discussions always remained amicable.

UPDATE 11:30 a.m. EST: Jason La Canfora of says he's hearing Seymour's contract is for four years. Stay tuned.

@detriotfoleys:Behind the chiefs?? Well with the departure of Weis and physical beatdowns they took in the trenches on bothsides of the ball to the Raiders twice, and the ravens(arguably two of the most physical teams the chiefs played all year) I would have to disagree with you on that. Remember the chiefs and chargers have a lot of free agents to sign this off-season also. I only see the Raiders making any moves and progress so far this off-season btw! In San Diego Norv Turner is not going to win them another division championship. With Rivera leaving the chargers best days are behind them. The division has some competition and that is scaring the he** out of the chargers right now. Obviously with the chiefs taking the divsion even with all that "talent" in San Diego. If you haven't noticed there is a lot going on in Oakland right now and they Al finally started in the place it counts most, COACHING! Do some homework on the division before you rush to such a crazy judgement.

this isn't a huge salary

I know everyone likes to stump against Al Davis anytime he does anything, but this is less than Peppers got last year and keep in mind, Saymour made $12.9 million last year with a franchise tag, and was due a 20% increase this year.  Why the big outcry over $15 mill?  I'd love to see Nnamdi come back too.  The Raiders are in the unusual spot of just needing to resign their guys and develop some young talent, rather than making over the roster.

Good move on this one, Al.

Either way, the Raiders will still find themselves behind the Chiefs and Chargers in 2011.  Congrats to Seymour - 15 million guaranteed in 2011.  That's a nice chunk of change..

We all look at this as a big deal because of the nnamdi situation, but nnamdi has a connection to the Raiders most people don't know about especially in that community. He will do the right thing!

@Bison: Hue Jackson already started assembling his team last year when he took the offense to a whole other height they haven't scene in 7 years. Nnamdi is the best player at his position, but for the raiders front seven to continue growing esecially with the young guys they need seymour around! Housten, Shaunessey, and Kelly had outstanding years last year each with 5 or more sacks. That is in due largely to Seymour's presence. Nnamdi will comeback if he really wants to, but now with the addition of Rod Woodosn to the coaching staff they can add in a couple good players to that secondary. Woodson will do wonders with or without nnamdi even though I would love nnamdi back it is up to him. He knows he can't get that kind of money from the Raiders anymore without making big plays, and thats what Woodson is there for to help create schemes to hopefully put nnamdi in the position to get after the ball. Nnamdi is the one that needs to take the pay cut. Seymour deserves that money for what he did and is going to continue doing for the young raiders d-line. Nnamdi has not shown he is a money hungry thug in the past and will do what is in his heart. He knows he wants to be a raider!

As a Pats fan I was sad to see Sey go but there's NO way he would've goptten that kind of money from the Pats, heck ANY team giving a D-lineman that isn't the absolute best in the league that kind of money is crazy especially in this age of the salary cap.
That deal is going to hamstring the Raiders, let's also not forget that they still need to pay or at least try to bring back Nnamdi Asomugha who actually IS the best player at his position in the league, just HOW are they goign to pay him too?
They're going to hand out A LOT of up front bonus money to keep the actual salary counted against the cap down.
Hope the Raiders have a great cap guy because he is going to be VERY busy once the CBA is ironed out and the Raiders have to assemble their team for Hue Jackson.

Hey guys, look at the stats, that d-line is no joke. The run d is shakey, but Mcclain will grow into his role and help anchor that run d, remember he was rookie. Tommy Kelly finally looks like he will be a force because of seymours help. I am honestly surprised with how well this off-season has been so far. Pleasently surprised though!
