Looks like tight end Zach Miller will be slapped with the Raiders’ franchise tag. Reason being, the other tag candidate, Richard Seymour (a man for whom getting franchise tagged has become a way of life), has agreed to a two-year, $30 million contract with the Raiders. This according to Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter.

All but $7.5 million of the deal is guaranteed. Seymour will get $15 million guaranteed in 2011 and a $7.5 million bonus in 2012.

The 31-year-old defensive lineman is coming off yet another Pro Bowl caliber campaign. The Raiders dealt the Patriots their 2011 first-round pick (which turned out to be No. 17 overall) in exchange for Seymour in ’09. He was unable to reach a multiyear deal with the club but discussions always remained amicable.

UPDATE 11:30 a.m. EST: Jason La Canfora of NFL.com says he's hearing Seymour's contract is for four years. Stay tuned.

Richard Seymour has had a solid career, but what am I missing?  Why would the Raiders make Seymour, a 31-year-old DE who has never reached 10 sacks in a season, potentially the highest-paid DE in football?  A classic move by the Crypt Keeper, overpaying AGAIN.  Can't somebody wrestle control of this club away from Al Davis' cold dead hands?

It doesn't matter how long it is. Whackadoo Davis will void it in a year and try to get all the money back. Such is life in Oakland.

I understand Nnamdi is a great player, and I would hate to see him go...but having that money to sign a free agent like champ bailey for a year to work with woodson will be just as effective. Woodson will improve the already improved Huff, Branch, Mitchell, and Routt if routt stays. All I am saying is that if Nnamdi walks it won't be the end of the world for the secondary. The front seven now with seymour for sure back will be even better, and rememer they had 47 sacks last year together(pretty good)! Also the Raiders need to free up some money for an o-linemen and atleast one addition at reciever because of schelins inability to stay healthy. There are wrs out there in Sydney Rice, Santa Moss, and Steve Smith from the NYG. I would say don't let nnamdi walk if we didn't have other options. Next year we will have a 1st round pick and there are some good cbs coming out of the big 12 south. Trust me I love Nnamdi, but a handful of good players adding to the core we have is a lot better than keeping one great one. We have done this dance with nnamdi in the past, if he wants to comeback he will!

This is very good news for the Raiders.  When the Raiders first made the deal with the Pats for Seymour, I thought they over paid as he would surely leave and the Raiders would be without the pick (which has turned out to be the "worst" pick for the Raiders in years).  Seymour helped revive the Defense and even brought some attitude that has been sorely missed (productive, on-field attitude).
Miller was my favorite from day 1 and I felt the Raiders "stole" him in the draft years ago.  I hope he gets paid what he is worth and continues to contribute on offense.  Now, the Raiders need to build on last years non-losing, .500 season and work hard this off season.

Good move!

Letting nnamdi go will free up a lot of money! If there is a free agency period there will be cbs and veteran wrs to go after. I think this is a great deal! Way to go Al!
What??  Letting Nnamdi go is going toNfect your D in a HUGE way sir.  That's an entire side of a field an opposing quarterback didn't even bother looking at.  That's a star wide reciever on almost every other opponent licking their chops again to play against the Raiders...

Nnamdi was thrown at less then any other db the last couple years for a reason...... he's a once in a decade franchise player at his position... if you think losing him isn't going to mean more losses, you're nuts.

This is good news, are surprisingly rare thing out of my beloved Raiders of late.  Looks like Al must have let someone else do the negotiating (and thinking).  If only they hadn't given up the 1st round pick to get him (2nd or 3rd at best Al!) it'd be a win all around.  Franchise on Miller is relatively cheap as he's a TE, and they should make a  concerted effort to get Nnamdi as he is key to their defensive scheme (and you don't lose a guy who is in the top 3 of his position if you have a chance to keep him).

Great news for Raider fans...People can criticize Al Davis all they want, but they can't say he won't spend $$$ to keep good players. Next up, let's get Nnamdi signed.

That is really good, but yet bad to hear at the same time. As a Raider fan I feel like they needed to get back those players but spending so much on them could limit the amount they can spend to get back Nnamdi whom was a vital person in the defense.
