Bryan Cox joins Dolphins coaching staff

A familiar face is back in Miami: long-time Dolphins linebacker Bryan Cox is rejoining the organization as a pass-rush coach. Cox spent the first five of his 12 NFL seasons in Miami. More recently, he’s served as an assistant for the Browns (’09-’10) and Jets (’06-’08).

Cox has coached defensive linemen in Cleveland and New York. As Miami’s pass-rush coach, he’ll work with defensive ends and, more directly, the outside linebackers. Cameron Wake is the headline pass-rusher for the Fins. But Wake, who’s in his late 20’s, is essentially a finished product at this point. Thus, Cox’s most important work could be with Koa Misi, a second-round pick from a year ago.

It was in Miami where Cox established his rough-around-the-edges reputation. He turned personal fouls into a work of art. And he was a perennial league leader in postgame interview bleep-outs. Cox’s temper has abated as a coach (at least we think it has – there haven’t been any stories about lunacy or meltdowns). Still, he’ll always be one of those leaders who is credited for “bringing a lot of fire” to the table.
