Browns franchise tag K Phil Dawson

The Cleveland Browns have used their franchise tag on kicker Phil Dawson, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. This ensures that the 36-year-old veteran will remain with the team for at least a 13th season. The cost of a franchise tag for a kicker figures to be about $3.25 million.

Dawson, you may recall (but probably don’t recall since, you know, he’s a kicker) staged a mild holdout last offseason in search of a long-term contract. No word on what this reaction to the tag will be.

Dawson was successful on 23/28 field goals last season. His 83.2 accuracy percentage ranks in the top 10 of all time.

Browns franchise tag K Phil Dawson

It's a good thing they franchised him. Wouldn't want him to take his talents to South Beach.

The Browns Write Their Own Jokes

"The Cleveland Browns have used their franchise tag on kicker Phil Dawson" sounds like the punchline to a terrible joke.  A 36 year old kicker???  $3.25 million???  Oh my.  If I am Browns fan, I am wondering about this decision.  Am I missing something here?  Oh and by the way, why does Phil Dawson look like he is using the toilet in his picture?  He looks like the Joker without the makeup.  Ease up Phil, it's only a media photo.  Don't clench.  Relax.  Deep breaths.
