Julio Jones burns up the combine 40 track

INDIANAPOLIS -- A.J. Green is by far and away the consensus top wide receiver in the 2011 NFL Draft, but Julio Jones' scorching (albeit unofficial) 4.39 40 time on Sunday will have people talking about a possible swap.

Green wasn't so shabby himself, running a 4.48 and then a 4.51.

Jones also posted a 4.41 on his other run, and probably vaulted himself into the top-10 of the draft in April with his blazing times -- Rob Rang and Chad Rueter had him going 14th and 10th, respectively, but any hope by the Rams that Jones could slip to them at that 14th spot has probably disappear.

Jones' speed probably isn't enough to warrant pushing him ahead of Green on a lot of draft boards, but it's certainly going to make things interesting in a draft class that's got some talent at wide receiver.

I love it.  The Raiders drafted the QB who could make all the throws, and the reciever who could run.  Why do people fall in love with the #'s? All that money put into scouting and people still love the times and reps.

Michael Bennett once ran a 4.13 in his pro day workout at Wisconsin.  Darrell Green is said to have been timed at 4.1 and won the NFL's fastest man challange 4 times without ever being defeated.  However, since the use of hand held timers is long gone how would these guys time at the combine with electronic timing?

Who are you so proud of in SD that you can bag on the Raiders WR corps?

That guy Vincent Jackson is pretty good! :) So is some guy name Antonio Gates. Sure, you can quibble he's a TE, but he's the best receiving threat on the team. Malcolm Floyd as option #3 isn't bad. Do you need me to educate you any more? LOL!

This just tells us that Alabama's QB's couldn't stretch the field to show of that speed. Playing with Parker Wilson and McElroy obviously restricted us from seeing Julio's deep threat ability because between the 2 of those QB's I doubt a ball could go 50 yards. They were real good at handing the ball off though! This kid just placed himself in the top 7. He was projected top 15 before he lit that clock up and we all know how much the NFL loves the combine all stars.

Gatorbait: It's called pride. Try to find some. Tide fans don't stop wishing them well after they graduate. Julio hasn't looked fast? I used to agree. But, You have never seen him run up the sidelines after catching a pass and watch guys with angles never catch him then. I have seen it happen. At that point, I said , "Well, hey, I guess he is pretty fast."

Some speed translates to the field and some doesn't.  I've seen Julio play numerous times and at no time have I ever thought he was fast.  Running without pads on the track doesn't meat squat on the football field.
