Ponder out-shines Newton in 2nd QB session

Cam Newton entered the second throwing session of the Combine with all of the hype, but it was Florida State's Christian Ponder who stole the show.

Ponder showed surprising zip and very good accuracy throughout the throwing session, especially in the short to intermediate levels. His deep outs and post-corner routes were especially impressive.

Newton has all of the physical tools scouts are looking for, but showed that he is still in the early developmental stages in dropping back, transferring his weight and throwing passes accurately. This led to some of his throws -- especially timing routes like deep outs -- to sail on him.

It doesn't surprise me Mallett looked the best. He always looks the best...in practice and drills. He's a perfect physical specimen, but has a ten cent brain. He's the next Vinny Testaverde or Jeff George in my opinion. He'll start for a bad team, throw for a lot of yards, throw a million interceptions, and bounce around from team to team over the next decade.

Ponder could very likely be a steal. He' not a 1st round talent at this point, IMO. But he has potential to develop in the right system. We'll see what his pro day looks like, but, if he looks as good there as he did at the combine, then anytime from the late 2nd round on, I think he's worth a look.

Of course Mallett was by far the best. Yet the commentators and media can't let him alone with all the other speculations to let anyone see it.

It's funny that the media didn't badger Newton with all his off the field troubles at Florida and with his recruiting scandal....yet because of ONE article that went viral about Mallett's history of possible drug use...that has NOT been substantiated...he gets drummed right and left and now there's character issues.

How in the hell can Newton...who we all see now doesn't have the throwing tools needed and who has the MOST character issues...be adored by these same media hounds and commentators who are questioning Mallett?? It's all B.S.

And, yet, Mallett was by far the best.  For those not watching.
