Rice not signing with Vikes to test free agency

The Vikings are clearly interested in keeping Sidney Rice -- and according to Leslie Frazier, they extended a contract offer to the wide receiver recently. However, Frazier didn't exactly specify what kind of deal they threw Rice's way. (For instance, it could have been a one-year RFA deal.)

According to a report from Judd Zulgad of the Minnesota Star-Tribune, the offer they sent his way is a multi-year deal. But, according to Rice's agent Drew Rosenhaus, the wideout will not be signing with Minnesota before the March 4 CBA deadline.

That comes via ESPN's Adam Schefter, who notes that Rice will "test free agency" instead of re-signing with the Vikings. And Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network says Rice will "consider" the Vikings as a landing spot in free agency.

What makes Rice's decision particularly interesting is that he won't necessarily be an unrestricted free agent -- depending on how the labor situation pans out, he could end up as a restricted free agent with four years of accrued service.

If that happens, he might be willing to rethink his position on the Vikings offer.

Walker one of the most talented receivers I have ever seen?

You must not have watched much football.  I wouldn't put him in the top 100 all time.

"LA Vikings"?? Nice ring to it?? Sounds pretty damn stupid to me. If they`re dumb enough to move the team to LA, I`d like to see the people of Minnesota, do the same as the people of Cleveland. And keep the Viking name. Come on... just how many people in LA are decendants of the Scandinavian region? Vikings in LA are as stupid as "Lakers" in LA.

Nothing wrong with Javon Walker but his head. He was one of the most talented wide receivers I have ever seen.

The guy is nothing special.  He's soft, not a great route runner and looks to be another Javon Walker.  Some team will sign him based off this one good year (teams with high payrolls, but never make the playoffs) and be worse off for it.  I hope it's the Vikings or Chicago.

I still don't see the Vikings letting Rice go. They have way to many questions at qb and on the line. Letting a #1 wideout go would be foolish at this time for the Vikings. I don't blame Rice for wanting to leave, but I can see the Vikings being the only team right now to still take him after last seasons injury. He should not be excpecting big money from anyone. That being said I would not mind seeing him in the silver and black next year.

Vikes Can Keep Rice - Bears Don't Want Him

Don't know why the Bears would want Sydney Rice.  He had one good, not great season, and then was injured for just about the entire next season.  He hasn't proved anything.  Sounds a little like, ahem, Bernard Berrian, whom the Bears unloaded on the Vikes several years back and who did nothing in Minnesota.  So even though the Bears need a #1 wideout badly, Sydney Rice is not the man.  Thanks, but no thanks.
