You might have seen Vikings RB Adrian Peterson’s comments from Tuesday when he referred to the NFL as “modern day slavery,” which then caused a big sigh from just about everybody else in the world when they heard it.

You might feel that a dude who’s scheduled to make about $10 million next season is overstating his opinion (just a bit, anyway) with a comment like that.

While some, like Packers RB Ryan Grant, have taken exception to Peterson’s statement – Grant makes the point that there is, you know, still ACTUAL slavery in the world – Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall sees Peterson’s point.

Writes Mendenhall on his Twitter page (this transcript, by the way, is presented unedited and strung together over about 10 different updates): “@AdrianPeterson Anyone with knowledege of the slave trade and the NFL could say that these two parallel eachother. If you look back and disect what I said, I ddnt say that the NFL was slavery, I said that they parallel eachother. Look up the word parallel. This means that they're not the same thing, but they run the same course. These paths will never cross, but they mirror eachother. I could break down how, but that would take an amount of ideology and big words that a lot of you wouldn't understand.

“Learn to LISTEN before you pass judgement. Because speaking without knowledge of subject is truly ignorant. Outside of the dollar amounts you see on tv, you don't know what's going on with the innerworkings of this buisness. I don't know what goes on at your job. But how dumb would I sound if I read about it in the newspaper and tried to tell you what's going on? Its bigger than what you people on the outside see on sundays, see on ESPN, read about in the paper. Just like any job, any business anywhere. Really think about that.”

Since Peterson is traveling to Africa, his agent, Ben Dogra, was left cleaning up some of the mess.

"I think anybody that knows Adrian knows that Adrian is a very strong-willed and passionate individual," Dogra told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "The game means an awful lot to him. People should not just take his statements per se word by word. It's a difficult time. He would love to play. I'm sure that everybody would love to see football continue in the NFL and I'm sure at some point it will get resolved. But Adrian, that's what makes him great. He's soft-spoken but if he has something on his mind he'll speak it. But I think nobody should really look at those words and take them out of context."

Yo, Adrian! Shuck That Yoke!

Meathead, I've skimmed about 40 pages of snappy comebacks to this modern-day slavery smack AP and RM are spewing ... and your three words "Shuck That Yoke!" should be the battle cry trumpeted from the hills by pissed off fans on this whole sordid affair.

We need to get billboards up across the nation to let AP and RM know they can escape the NFL's modern-day slavery before the next snap of the ball.

Amen.

very few slaves were beaten. I would know I was there. JK. But, no for real you people are acting like slaves had this horrible life. They worked for food and shelter and clothes. Just like people do today. The only difference is you can buy your own house, car, take vacations do things. Is that a big difference absolutley. 70-80 percent of this world is slavery.

"Modern day slavery" is, um, slavery.  People forced to do the bidding of others with no pay.  The NFL, or any paying job for that matter, parallels slavery in NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM.  The only two points anyone needs to know about the NFL in this case are: the players get PAID and can WALK AWAY if they don't want to play.  Mendenhall calls his doubters too ignorant to understand his explanations, but has yet to actually offer any.  Until then, he needs to keep his mouth shut about this slavery subject and maybe travel a little and witness slavery first-hand.  Moron.  Of course, that's just my opinion.

Both of these guys are idiots.  Are you kidding me that your comparing the NFL to being a slave. Peterson your free to leave at any point, just leave your millions on the table.  Just because your black does not eve mean you were related to slaves in any other way than skin color.  No one is forcing you to play this mentality is why many can't stand many of you atheletes.  Are your trying to tell me that the league and ownership are keeping you in chains or whipping you when you slow down on the field.  You sir must be one of the most ignorant, racist, and disrespectful individuals I have ever heard speak.  Have some respect for those individuals that suffered greatly on a daily basis, and for many that fought for racial equality to allow you to make the money and have the fame that you have.  Next are you going to claim the NFL are the Nazi's and Goodell as Hitler and you poor NFL players are the Jews forced to build munitions until they died of exhaustion.  I truly hope that you have a career ending injury this season and are permenantly released from your "chains of slavery".  Swing low chariot coming for to carry me home.
