You might have seen Vikings RB Adrian Peterson’s comments from Tuesday when he referred to the NFL as “modern day slavery,” which then caused a big sigh from just about everybody else in the world when they heard it.

You might feel that a dude who’s scheduled to make about $10 million next season is overstating his opinion (just a bit, anyway) with a comment like that.

While some, like Packers RB Ryan Grant, have taken exception to Peterson’s statement – Grant makes the point that there is, you know, still ACTUAL slavery in the world – Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall sees Peterson’s point.

Writes Mendenhall on his Twitter page (this transcript, by the way, is presented unedited and strung together over about 10 different updates): “@AdrianPeterson Anyone with knowledege of the slave trade and the NFL could say that these two parallel eachother. If you look back and disect what I said, I ddnt say that the NFL was slavery, I said that they parallel eachother. Look up the word parallel. This means that they're not the same thing, but they run the same course. These paths will never cross, but they mirror eachother. I could break down how, but that would take an amount of ideology and big words that a lot of you wouldn't understand.

“Learn to LISTEN before you pass judgement. Because speaking without knowledge of subject is truly ignorant. Outside of the dollar amounts you see on tv, you don't know what's going on with the innerworkings of this buisness. I don't know what goes on at your job. But how dumb would I sound if I read about it in the newspaper and tried to tell you what's going on? Its bigger than what you people on the outside see on sundays, see on ESPN, read about in the paper. Just like any job, any business anywhere. Really think about that.”

Since Peterson is traveling to Africa, his agent, Ben Dogra, was left cleaning up some of the mess.

"I think anybody that knows Adrian knows that Adrian is a very strong-willed and passionate individual," Dogra told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "The game means an awful lot to him. People should not just take his statements per se word by word. It's a difficult time. He would love to play. I'm sure that everybody would love to see football continue in the NFL and I'm sure at some point it will get resolved. But Adrian, that's what makes him great. He's soft-spoken but if he has something on his mind he'll speak it. But I think nobody should really look at those words and take them out of context."

THese players need to realize a few things and take them seriousely.  fThey make the big bucks because of the TV money, selling team jerseys and the like, advertising, but mostly because of the FANS.  If the fans aren't in the stands, and are not in front of the TV watching then there are no big bucks anymore.  Alot of the FANS mentioned make less per year than alot of these guys make PER GAME.  SO you have AP making about $10mil per season, not per lifetime but per season and his talk or comparison to salvery is just plain stupid, no matter how is agent tries to spin it.  These players should remember one thing before making stupid comments to the press - "It doesn't matter what you SAY, it matters how the people that hear what you say TAKE IT.  If they would remember that little sentence alot of these stupid comments would not be printed.

Obviously these guys never had a real job. National average salery os 36-40k a year. You pay more in taxes then that you a$$hole. Your not parrelle to slavery you just have a boss and a job to do. And if you dont do that job to the best of your ability you lose it. Thats the real world. People lose their jobs now even when they are doing it. You have a problem with how much you work, the beind the scene things you just dont see...I cant call into work bc I ran out of sick days so I show up do manual labor while satin is trying to escape from my a$$hole buring everything in its way. When is the last time you had that problem. You complain that you have to cut into your millionare celberty status personal life to play and study football...grow up and find the silver lining bc if you keep complaining we will watch you, but if I see you ill spit on your gators your rich selfish prick.

everytime on these "slaves" speaks in public the owners sit back and smile.  You would think that as smart as everyone says DeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeMorry is he would have continued the gag order for these guys.  the public at large really feels the pain caused by your chosen profession.  if you feel like a slave--then go get another job.  See what the real world is like. i wonder if these tweets are coming between poolside drinks at Marco Island where the NFL Players-Slave meetings are taking place.  Amazing

Peterson, Mendenhall, the owner can trade or cut you at anytime.  You need to give it your all, or you will get disciplined.  All the sweat and blood you've shed does not mean a thing unless you can still perform.....PARALELL: Take any job, any paying job in this world, the same criterias apply.  Problem is, most of us hard working citizens, if we loose our jobs and can't replace it withing a few months, we may end up on the street.  We don't have millions to fall back on, or the same network connections you have.  If you want to bash something maybee start with the system, instead of single out the NFL organisation that create a world where guys like yourself can live the DREAM!!!!

My heart aches for the modern day victims of the slave trade.  What we need is someone who can set them free from the slave holding owners of the NFL.  Perhaps we could all aid in this by boycotting the products produced by such onerous practices.  Yes!  Boycott the NFL until they free the players and pay them for their labors!

Parallel?  If I raise my right midle finger, and then raise my left midle finger....That forms a parallel right?  They should give these guys real jobs during the summer, maybee even shoveling horse manure during the weekend.....Then they will understand the difference between a job, dream job, and slavery.  I would LOVE to work only 3 years after completing college and then retire and get another high paying dream job as a hobby.  Perterson, I think YOU need to pickup a dictionary, and quick.
