Mendenhall has Peterson's back on slavery claim

You might have seen Vikings RB Adrian Peterson’s comments from Tuesday when he referred to the NFL as “modern day slavery,” which then caused a big sigh from just about everybody else in the world when they heard it.

You might feel that a dude who’s scheduled to make about $10 million next season is overstating his opinion (just a bit, anyway) with a comment like that.

While some, like Packers RB Ryan Grant, have taken exception to Peterson’s statement – Grant makes the point that there is, you know, still ACTUAL slavery in the world – Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall sees Peterson’s point.

Writes Mendenhall on his Twitter page (this transcript, by the way, is presented unedited and strung together over about 10 different updates): “@AdrianPeterson Anyone with knowledege of the slave trade and the NFL could say that these two parallel eachother. If you look back and disect what I said, I ddnt say that the NFL was slavery, I said that they parallel eachother. Look up the word parallel. This means that they're not the same thing, but they run the same course. These paths will never cross, but they mirror eachother. I could break down how, but that would take an amount of ideology and big words that a lot of you wouldn't understand.

“Learn to LISTEN before you pass judgement. Because speaking without knowledge of subject is truly ignorant. Outside of the dollar amounts you see on tv, you don't know what's going on with the innerworkings of this buisness. I don't know what goes on at your job. But how dumb would I sound if I read about it in the newspaper and tried to tell you what's going on? Its bigger than what you people on the outside see on sundays, see on ESPN, read about in the paper. Just like any job, any business anywhere. Really think about that.”

Since Peterson is traveling to Africa, his agent, Ben Dogra, was left cleaning up some of the mess.

"I think anybody that knows Adrian knows that Adrian is a very strong-willed and passionate individual," Dogra told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "The game means an awful lot to him. People should not just take his statements per se word by word. It's a difficult time. He would love to play. I'm sure that everybody would love to see football continue in the NFL and I'm sure at some point it will get resolved. But Adrian, that's what makes him great. He's soft-spoken but if he has something on his mind he'll speak it. But I think nobody should really look at those words and take them out of context."

Speaking makes it worse.

Another dummy.  Stop talking dummies.  You are making it worse, and just make yourself sound dumber and dumber.  We don't know what goes on behind the scenes?  I would like to be behind the scenses when you collect your million dollar paycheck.   Your vomit of the mouth just makes more and more people not want to watch your pre-Madonna a**es anymore.  Be quiet now and cut your losses.

Mendenhall has Peterson's back on slavery claim

I'm sure the Reverend Jesse Jackson right now is recommending to AP and Mendenhall not to subject themselves to this humiliating multi-million dollar torture anymore.   And the ironic part is that they can "escape" anytime they want - just quit, with no consequences, no lashings, no "underground railroad" needed - just walk away.  Oh yeah, they can keep their investments, and even star in celbrity golf matches now and then or even a commercial for Nike.  Get a clue!  Slavery my a$$! The only slaves are us loyal "public servants," all diverse in status, who are paying $100 + a ticket to watch these overpaid, but incredibly athletic fools.

Maybe we should bring slavery back. I need a couple things around my house fixed. Why not have some blacks or mexicans or Asian fix it for free. Then I can put them back in a cage where they all belong. All blacks, Mexicans and Asians should be thankful for the freedom they have. It could be taken at anytime. All it takes is us white people to rise up and recall America from worthless crap that has been trying to take over. Slavery should have never ended in the first place. Peterson should be saying thank you to every white person he comes in contact with.

Well good news for Peterson and Mendenhall. If they do not like the way the NFL conduct’s their business they are FREE to leave, and use their above intellect to forge new careers where everyone can understand the bid words. The union and NFL will work it out and both of them (Peterson and Mendenhall) will never actual have to hold down a 9 to 5, 365 unless they squander the million of dollars they have been given to play a game. The sympathy light is blinking low for professional athletes right now. With all of the crap that is going on around the glob right now, you would think that the really smart people who have millions would wait until the world isn’t nose diving to stir the pot. Cool your jets and go back to counting your money while the rest of us pay out the can for a gallon of gas or bail out the water in the living room.  Signed Really Smart

The NFL Players Association really needs to ask some of these guys not to speak . I can see where the owners are having problems negotiating with these football players. These millionaire crybabies really make themselves out to be quite the victims don't they.
(Parallel - something identical or similar in essential respects; match; counterpart)
Attentions all players:

Slavery is NOT parallel to being an NFL player.
YOU ARE NOT SLAVES in any way, shape or form.

STOP saying this
STOP defending it
STOP spinning it

You sound like fools comparing yourself to people who have absolutely no freedoms , people who sadly still exist in the world . We know what you're doing.....trying to kick-start that old, tried & true guilt trip . It doesn't work anymore.

Just stop.

If you think you the owners are greedy ?? I wonder how the players pay the people who work for them ? I bet it's not 60% of what they bring in. Some ambitious reporter should look into that.
