There have been a lot of people calling for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to go ahead and get rid of cornerback Aqib Talib, who's been quite the distraction lately. Those people may feel justified with the news that felony arrest warrants have been issued for Talib and his mother.

The warrent is for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - a second-degree felony that's punishable by five to 20 years in prison, and, per the Tampa Tribune , Talib is scheduled to turn himself into Garland, Texas, police later in the week. His bail has been set at $25,000.

Police have accused Talib and his mother of firing gunshots at his sister's boyfriend March 21. Earlier in the day, the boyfriend had been listed as a suspect in a disturbance, and from that incident, police charged him with assault and interference with an emergency phone call.

Talib's mother, Okolo Talib, turned herself in on Tuesday afternoon. Her bond was set at $30,000 based on a previous conviction.

This isn't exactly Talib's first "violent incident" either -- in 2008, Talib, a Bucs' first-round pick that year, got in a fight with Cory Boyd at the Rookie Symposium. In 2009, Talib got in a fight with teammate Donald Penn.

Offseason trouble
In 2009, Talib was also charged with resisting arrest and simple battery and was then suspended for the first game of the 2010 season.

Were the personal conduct policy currently enforceable, it's likely that Talib would see a significant suspension from the NFL for his problems in Texas. But for now, he'll have to settle with simply facing the legal authorities.

UPDATED (5:07 p.m.):
Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik just released a statement: "We are deeply troubled by the serious charges filed against Aqib Talib. Due to current labor circumstances, we will withhold any further comment or action."

Oh boy, the personal conduct policy isnt in force.  I would imagine more players like Talib and Bryant will go on crime sprees since they dont have football to fund their lives for a while.  That 60k lockout fund will go real quick when you have to drop 25k for bail or 850k for suits and jewelry and shoes.  Put this idiot in jail so he can truely appreciate what he is throwing away.

With his jacket growing, I cannot imagine he can walk away from this without some form of time.

What a sad waste of human talent. While I don't feel sorry for him or any other pro athlete (white, black, purple, or neon color) that seemingly has "everything"....to just throw it away on stupidity for drugs, alcohol, loose women, or in this case brandishing a firearm and taking the law into your hands (defending your sister). Next time call the cops, but dont start shooting a deadly weapon at people unless you truly felt YOUR life was in danger. Even then the protections under the law might be limited. Better yet, athletes should STOP CARRYING GUNS! I know the arguement will be they need to protect themselves, but cite one instance other than the botched hom burglary with the Redskins CB death (his home) that involved a athlete being attacked. OH you can also toss out the fools that hang out where trouble persists at after hours parties and bars. These guys need to be smarter, but seem to be willing to throw it all away....just ask Tupac about the "thug life". AGAIN regardless of color ANY pro athlete that subjects themselves to risky behavior is a fool without considering the consequences of all the "what ifs"...this include Roethlisburger and not thinking about the women (whether consensual or "of age) he engages in relations with for one night. Of course he can be manipulated or might be guilty...we will never know.

I agree.  If this guy, and his mother, don't see significant prison time (somewhere around the 20 years mentioned) then the justice system will continue to be a laughing stock.
This guy continues to prove he is unfit for society.  He simply cannot cope with being a human being and needs to be relegated to animal status where he belongs.  Then they can cage him in a zoo so people can throw food scraps at him and take pictures.
I don't care if the NFL isn't supposed to be punishing players under the personal conduct policy right now, they can go retroactive and ban this guy for life for previous infractions.  Scumbags like this don't deserve to waste natural resources to keep them alive when they could be used by law abiding citizens.

Charges not enough

This guy needs to be charged with attempted murder, not just aggravated assault. According to this story, his mom was shooting too.  Why is she not being arrested?
No  wonder crime is "down" in Texas - when they reduce charges to make what really happened look a little prettier.
This guy tried to end someones life. He should NEVER see the light of day again.  EVER.

EVEN if that is true and I say EVEN....They are hired security and people are tresspassing. NOT Tom Brady shooting....HIRED Security. Is this the best you can come up with?

Security at Tom Brady's wedding shot at PHOTOGRAPHERS, but of course, who cares -- and I wonder how many people even know about that. Not a big deal. They had every right at attempted murder over private wedding pictures.
