There have been a lot of people calling for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to go ahead and get rid of cornerback Aqib Talib, who's been quite the distraction lately. Those people may feel justified with the news that felony arrest warrants have been issued for Talib and his mother.

The warrent is for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - a second-degree felony that's punishable by five to 20 years in prison, and, per the Tampa Tribune , Talib is scheduled to turn himself into Garland, Texas, police later in the week. His bail has been set at $25,000.

Police have accused Talib and his mother of firing gunshots at his sister's boyfriend March 21. Earlier in the day, the boyfriend had been listed as a suspect in a disturbance, and from that incident, police charged him with assault and interference with an emergency phone call.

Talib's mother, Okolo Talib, turned herself in on Tuesday afternoon. Her bond was set at $30,000 based on a previous conviction.

This isn't exactly Talib's first "violent incident" either -- in 2008, Talib, a Bucs' first-round pick that year, got in a fight with Cory Boyd at the Rookie Symposium. In 2009, Talib got in a fight with teammate Donald Penn.

Offseason trouble
In 2009, Talib was also charged with resisting arrest and simple battery and was then suspended for the first game of the 2010 season.

Were the personal conduct policy currently enforceable, it's likely that Talib would see a significant suspension from the NFL for his problems in Texas. But for now, he'll have to settle with simply facing the legal authorities.

UPDATED (5:07 p.m.):
Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik just released a statement: "We are deeply troubled by the serious charges filed against Aqib Talib. Due to current labor circumstances, we will withhold any further comment or action."

You can take the boy out of the hood but...

P.O.S.  Why cant NFL players leave their thug life behind when they enter the NFL? Is it ego? Pride? What?  I cant understand it...I'm sick of these off season reports about players breaking the law.  Its just pathetic.  Grow up guys.

Would think that this very issue could serve as a lightining rod for the owners, in that if a player is convicted of a felony or other act deemed detrimental to the League, that they can be cut and that their salary does not go against the salary cap.

Best. Post. Ever.

Ah, yes, that's exactly the type of story the NFLPA wants to hear now as they struggle to win the public's favor during the lockout. It's like "Stop, Or my Mom Will Shoot" crossed with Smokey firing wildly into the night in "Friday" crossed with Hard Knocks. I love it.

I loved the description provided by neighbors in the Dallas Observer -

A woman was shooting and missing at the guy running away, when Aliq Talib takes the gun and says "I'll shoot him" and fires too more errant shots.

Yeah, this isn't going to end well for the Talibs.
