Rex Ryan is fond of Randy Moss

On Sunday, CBSSports.com’s Mike Freeman wrote “(Rex) Ryan recently raved about Moss, and despite what the Jets may say pubR. Mosslicly, several league sources told CBSSports.com the team is seriously intrigued by Moss. That doesn't mean they'll sign him, but it's a possibility.”

So what, exactly, did Ryan say?

“Randy Moss, I’ve said all along, is a great vertical receiver,’’ the head coach told Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe. “And you have to roll coverage. Most teams would have to roll coverage to him.  We never did, but we got burned for a touchdown. But he was a weapon. A vertical weapon down the field.’’

With Santonio Holmes a free agent and indicating that he’ll play hardball in search of a long-term contract, there’s a small possibility the Jets could be in the market for a new wideout.

Moss, the guy Darrelle Revis once called a “slouch”, is available. At 34, his skills have mostly eroded and the Titans aren’t interested in re-signing him.

Is Moss worth bringing in? Well, Freeman basically covered it. (In a word, No!)

Great post!!!

I also think Randy Moss can still play but he needs a winning situation with a strong and respected coach and QB.  I think Rex can handle Randy but I do not think Mark Sanchez is ready.

The Patriots were the perfect situation for Moss but he even started complaining there at the end.

I think Randy Moss still have at least one more good season where he can play as the #1 wide out.

The problem as I see it is what would it take to motivate Randy to play without moping and showing disgust. Sanchez might be a good quarterback, however, I don’t think he is in the caliber of Tom Brady where Randy would come in and immediately have respect for him

Rex might have the correct personality to cause Randy to develop the motivation and not be a distraction in a Jet uniform.

I think if he is signed by the Jets, it would benefit Sanchez and perhaps Randy it they can establish a bond and trust of each other.

When he was in Oakland and the later part of his career with the Vikings I don’t think he was properly motivated, in Minnesota his support group in Carter, and his cousin was no longer there, therefore I think he felt loss.

When he was traded to the Raiders, I don’t really know what happen, but when he was with the Pats he put up good numbers and was not a distraction. Perhaps it was the coach and the quarterback one or both.
