Bucs sign Mark Dominik to four-year extension

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced a four-year contract extension for Mark Dominik. The 40-year-old general manager has been with the club for 16 years, the last two as the top decision-maker.

"It's been a pleasure working with and getting to know Mark, so it's gratifying to witness his success," said the team's co-chairman Joel Glazer. "Mark is dedicated to delivering the winner our fans deserve."

That success Glazer is referring to is quite impressive. Dominik has overseen the last two drafts, which have brought about five fulltime starters on offense (including budding star quarterback Josh Freeman) and four fulltime starters on defense. The Bucs have made it clear they’re in a youth movement. Despite the “all in” rebuilding effort, they still finished 10-6 in 2010 (their best single season turnaround in franchise history).

Of Dominik’s 15 draft picks thus far, 13 are on the roster and 12 have started at least one game.

The Bucs pulled out at least four victories in the fourth quarter on the heroics of their quarterback and rookie receiver, Freeman and Williams; however, their defense was extraordinary in holding the leads once they got them.  Once they get their runningback situation straight and some extra safety help, they will be a foce to be reckoned with.

That blown call in the game against Detroit cost us the game. We win that game and we are in the playoffs, not the Packers. Interesting..

I think everyone was nervous when Dominik and Morris took over. The first year was brutal but I was glad to see them keep Morris around for year 2 and it paid off. 10-6 is 10-6 no matter who you play. 90% of people probably expected the Bucs to be a 5-11 or 6-10 team. The team didn't really hit it's stride until week 7 and 8 in the tough games with St. Louis and Arizona. After the blowouts by the Saints and Steelers, Tampa's losses were by 7 points or less. Both Atlanta games were down to the wire. Baltimore was able to hold off a comeback. Detroit game was lost by the officials, not the Bucs. This is a team on the rise and hopefully they will be able to fill the few (but major) holes in the roster and really be contenders in the near future.

I have to admit my first choice to be the General Manager of the Bucs were not Dominik. Over the past two years or so, we have achieved what we were attempting under past regimes with little success.

Coach Morris was not as bad as I could see the coaching tree from which he came. I sorta figured he might not be as bad. My greater concern was would the Buc Nation give him sufficient time to develop his system and acquire the players needed to play in his system.

I think management and the coaching staff are ahead of schedule. I was sorta thinking we would win a maximum of 5-6 games last season. Everyone can see what we did.

I just hope a small dip n the win column would not be reason for the Buc Nation to call for the head of Morris. We might have played a bit above our heads last season.

I do think the coaches and management have the team headed into the right direction and building the team into a future powerhouse that will be among the elite teams of the future.

I am now glad we have Dominik as the General Manager and Morris as our head coach.

He deserve this extension.

Dominik made me a little uneasy at first but you cannot ignore the decisions him and Morris have made in the past two years. A 4 year extension is deserved.
