Report: Mallett admits drug use to NFL teams

Apparently, former Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett has had some stunning confessions in the lead-up to the NFL draft. As Pro Football Weekly reports, Mallett has admitted to using drugs to prospective employers.

Yet, he struck a different tone while talking to KRJ radio in Seattle earlier today, when Mallett described why he felt he got a raw deal from NFL.com’s Albert Breer in a previous story that discussed some teams’ concerns about his off-field activities.

Said Mallett (via sportsradiointerviews.com) : “Because Albert [Breer] doesn’t know me. Yeah, Albert doesn’t know me and Albert’s never been around me. Albert doesn’t know what kind of guy I am. That’s why I love these visits, being around the team, so they can see what kind of guy I am and what kind of person I am because all these reports about all this other stuff is mind boggling to me. I don’t know where he gets his information, but to me he got false information.”

Which naturally transitions us into today’s PFW report about Mallett's supposed drug use. One GM told PFW’s Nolan Nawrocki that it was the first time he ever heard a draftee admit that, and a league executive told him that he wouldn’t take Mallett at any point in the draft.

For the record, Breer’s story ran in early January, and the mention of Mallett’s off-field activities was 17 words long.

That's an obvious Chicago fans statement about Cutler. Do you know Jay Cutler personally? Because if you don't, you're talking out of your backside. Everybody thinks that they KNOW these guys and almost everybody is clueless. Cutler has proven he's got a extra large ego with his comments about Phillip Rivers, Elway, and more. I guess since he strapped on a Bears uniform the sun rises and sets on his backside. If he was so standup he would've addressed the situation about leaving the Packers game as soon as possible instead of leaving it up to a true leader like Urlacher to fight his battles and stand for him. I liked the guy as Denvers QB but everybody knows you can lump him with some other QB's.

Please, why do we fall into this trap?  Is a joint any worse than a weekend of binge drinking?  Let's not treat this as any more of a "character" flaw then it really is, he went away to college and experimented with marijuana - WOW, news break!  The only people who think this is news worthy are the hangers-on and draft "professionals" who earn their salary weighing in on a sport they never succeeded at playing.  When we start treating athletes as humans and stop placing them on a pedistal because they run a sub-4.5 40 we'll all be in a better place!

Lumping Jav Cutler  in with players having clear and obvious off field and ego related issues is foolish and ignorant.
Just like the false reports of Jay Cutler flipping off fans, or having an attitude.
The guy is as grounded as they come, and beyond being the clear cut better player than either of the two you lump him in with, he is the clear cut better man being more mature and morally grounded

Report: Mallett admits drug use to NFL teams

Are you saying he is a "dirtball" because he attended an SEC school or because he took drugs?
I did both and you would never describe me as a "dirtball;" I am your all-american boy. I probably just walked past you on the street.
So is you beef with people who can handle their smoke or those who matriculated at football-first institutions in the south of the USofA?
And how is UMich any different, apart from geographic location?
