Ryan Clark speaks mind about Goodell

Steelers CB Ryan Clark doesn’t mind speaking his mind about the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell. Give the man a platform, and he’ll give you gold.

Today, ESPN gave him that chance. On First Take (via , Clark criticized what he characterized as Goodell’s inability to talk to fans and provide them with truthful information at the same time.

And then Clark gave props to former commissioner Paul Tagliabue who Clark said knew how to play the game (that could be, because Tagliabue might have rushed the owners to accept the last CBA deal that they later found so unacceptable). He also intimated that Goodell didn’t know how to play that same game.

“Paul Tagliabue was a guy [who's] going to get people in the room [who] can make decisions, whereas throughout these negotiations…[Goodell] has to leave for hours to make conference calls and call people who can make decisions,” Clark said. “Instead of saying, ‘You know what, guys, we’re going to hold the schedule off until we can figure out this situation – until we can make sure that the fans have football this year. No. Instead it’s, ‘We’re going to put the schedule out and find another way to put my face on TV.’”

Here’s what Goodell had to say to the NFL Network about why the league released the schedule at this point: “This is a great day for the fans. We’re doing all we can to prepare for the 2011 season. We’re announcing the schedule as usual around this time of year, because we know it’s an important point where fans start looking forward to the season. We have every intention of playing a full schedule.”

Ryan Clark speaks mind about Goodell

1. Clark is right.  Goodell is a complete clown.
2. Was this written by anyone that's watched football in the past 5 years.  Because Ryan Clark is not a CB, as the article indicates.

I do not respect Roger Goodell. I do not know him, but I would not trust him if my life depended on it.  Also, You state that he has been good for the game.  How?  He has turned professional football into ballet.  I also feel he is twicw as hard on blacks as whites.  In all honesty, the only white guy he has dogged or given a real penalty to is Bill Bilichick who he has a personal problem with because he did not play his appology game.  If you fined me 500K for the same thing everyone else does, I would not appologize either.

Ryan Clark speaks mind about Goodell

Hello Ryan Clark,

Are you stupid or something? (said with the Forest Gump voice)

You do realize that Rodger Goodell has a lot to do with determining the fines for illegal hits. You better hope all your hits are clean when there is games played. I am pretty sure Mr. Goodell will remember your wonderful comments.

God help you if you get in trouble off the field and violate the NFL personal conduct policy.  The hammer will come down on you young man.

Once again it is proven that lots of money just can not fix dumb.

i'm going to concur with the first two posts. the public comments have been stupid and have not helped the situation at all.

the public doesn't care about your problems. we care about a settlement. quit pointing fingers.

i personally think goodell has been good for the league for the most part. the players don't like that he's a heavy-handed sheriff. they will always hold a grudge against his rulings against them. nevermind they're the one's breaking rules and laws. i think goodell has been fair, and in his defense in these negotiations, his comments haven't been demeaning in any way shape or form.

now the attorneys... that's a different story. they're steady posturing. as are the players and owners.

I completely agree, especially when it comes to the players.  Every time one of them opens his mouth, dumb stuff comes out.  We all know that most of these players are idiots; I do not know why they feel compelled to remind us constantly.  And yes, I know Clark is an LSU guy.

Why don't these idiots just shut up? No one cares what they have to say. Fans are tired of their back-biting and whining. Don't we get enough of that from politicians?

The judge should put a gag order on the players, commissioner and owners. Then maybe they can get something done.
