R. Mallett (US Presswire)
Earlier today we passed along a report from Brad Briggs of the National Football Post that said Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett skipped his April 9 meetings with the Panthers after being out on the town the night of April 8.

Mallett’s agents (J.R. Carroll and David Dunn), as well as the Panthers organization, have issued statements (received via Pro Football Talk) rebuking these reports.

From the agents:

“There is absolutely no truth to the unfounded and irresponsible report that Ryan skipped his visit with the Carolina Panthers on April 9 because he was too sick after a late night out on the town the previous night.  Rather, Ryan had dinner with club officials from the Panthers on the evening of April 8 and then returned to his hotel that evening along with Julio Jones.  Ryan and Julio were together the entire time that evening until Ryan and Julio turned in for the night around 10:00 — 10:30 pm.

“Upon returning to his hotel room, Ryan became ill and was up most of the night and into the morning with flu-like symptoms.  Keep in mind that this was Ryan’s fourth team visit in the previous week and that Ryan had crisscrossed the country with stops in Cincinnati, Fayetteville, Seattle, Fayetteville again and Minneapolis before Charlotte.  Nevertheless, Ryan met with Panthers representatives on the morning of April 9 as scheduled and informed the club at that time that he was extremely sick.  Carolina officials decided to send Ryan back to his hotel room for some medicine and additional rest in hopes that they could meet with Ryan later that morning.  Ryan did as instructed and contacted Panther officials later that morning to resume his meetings with club officials.  However, given that Ryan was still sick, Carolina officials decided to cancel the remainder of Ryan’s visit with the team.”

From the Panthers:

“Ryan Mallett came for a visit to Charlotte two weeks ago. He had dinner with our coaches the evening he arrived and came down from his hotel room for a scheduled breakfast meeting the following morning upon which time he informed a staff member that he had been sick all night with nausea. We told Ryan that if he was ill to remain in his room as long as the nausea existed. We took him to the airport later that afternoon for his scheduled flight.”

Agents and Panthers say Mallett really was sick

ESPN should truly be ashamed of themselves for such a blatant malicious attack that was totally unwarranted

Especially since this attack of Ryan could end up costing him before his career starts. They question his character, but his coaches and teammates say they never saw anything that he's being accused of. They question his leadership ability, but his coaches and teammates stand up for him. Who should we be listening to? A nameless "ghost" who keeps throwing unfounded accusations around? or the people who actually know Ryan and played with him for years?!? This makes no sense whatsoever! What is wrong with these people?!?

Agents and Panthers say Mallett really was sick

ESPN labled Ryan Mallett an undesirable from jump street.  This story has been a total fabrication on the part of ESPN to justify their stance on this kid.  Funny how they practically glazed over all the ridiculousness of Brett Favre the past couple of seasons but they have no problem nailing this kid to the cross.  ESPN should truly be ashamed of themselves for such a blatant malicious attack that was totally unwarranted.

Agents and Panthers say Mallett really was sick

First of all, Mallett is a big white kid and if he was out partying don't you think we'd have photos or video by now?  Also, the PANTHERS admitted he was sick and appropriately communiicated that to them.  So basically ESPN is calling both Mallett AND the Pathers liars.  Totally irresponsible journalism.

Because most of the writers of sports media are white, except for Mr. Freeman. They would come off as racist if they honestly critique C. Newton.
I dont buy that at all.  For the most part these guys blast any position player regardless if you are black, white, blue, purple, so on, and so on if its called for in their eyes.  Lets not forget that most having C. Newton going #1 is not because they beleive he is the top player in the draft...They have stated that its because the Panthers are getting more, and more interested in him, and going off of these reports.  They are trying to predict the draft, and if info comes out that a certain team wants a certain player they will adjust their draft board as needed.

He is a major LOSer and doesnt not have the brains to be a qb.
Does anyone else see the irony in this sentence?  Tongue out
